Mercedes has revealed the new AMG GT SUV. The German brand says it is the first full-size SUV, built fully in-house. It is a five-seat performance EV. It shares its base with the all-electric GT 4-Door Coupe. It is available in three versions: GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63. The GT 63 makes up to 1,169hp. The GT 53 will go on sale first. The other two follow in spring 2027.

    Design
The AMG GT SUV measures 5,084mm long, 2,001mm wide and 1,656mm tall. The wheelbase is 3,040mm. Up front, you get AMG’s vertical-slat grille and the Mercedes star. These can be optionally illuminated. LED headlamps with star-shaped DRLs sit on either side. The front bumper has active slats. They open only when parts need extra cooling.

From the side, the roofline sits low and slopes toward the rear. The wheel arches look pronounced. The side windows have no frames, and the wing mirrors are compact. At the back, it gets six round taillamps, just like on the GT 4-Door Coupe. You can also pick a full-width light strip.

The GT 55 and GT 63 get an active rear spoiler. It stays flush with the roof until 150kph. After that, it changes its angle based on how you drive. Mercedes-AMG claims a drag coefficient of 0.28 for the GT 53 and 0.27 for the other two. The main boot holds 607 litres. The frunk adds 78 litres.

You can personalise the exterior through the Manufaktur programme. It offers over 60 paint options. You can also choose AMG forged wheels with colour accents. These include Matt Vanadium Silver and Matt Copper. There is also Matt Black with a rim flange in Angel Blue, Sunny Lime or Orange Flame.

    Interior and tech
The cabin also gets Manufaktur options. You can pick accent colours and seat belts in Fjord Blue, Green Hell or Orange Flame. Mercedes says the seating position feels like a sports car, not an SUV. The front seats have multi-way power adjustment. The three-seat rear bench has power-folding headrests.

The dashboard has a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Next to it sits a 14-inch touchscreen angled toward the driver. You can add a 14-inch screen for the front passenger. The AMG Performance steering wheel has paddles that adjust the brake-regen level. The door panels have floating armrests and diamond-pattern stitching. The ambient lighting can match the colours of the screens and controls.

The infotainment runs the latest MBUX software, which is built on MB.OS (Mercedes-Benz Operating System). It works with AI agents like ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini.

An optional dashcam can record your laps with data overlays. Other options include an electrically dimming panoramic glass roof, AMG lighting effects, AMG Performance seats and a Burmester 4D audio system.

    Performance
The GT 53 is the entry-level model. It has two synchronous motors, one on each axle. A 2-speed gearbox sits at the rear. It makes 544hp and 800Nm. Mercedes-AMG claims 0-100kph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 250kph.

The GT 55 and GT 63 use three motors. Two axial flux motors sit at the rear and one sits at the front. The front motor switches off when you don’t need it. That saves energy.

    -- GT 55: 816hp and 1,860Nm. It does 0-100kph in a claimed 3.1 seconds.
    -- GT 63: 1,169hp and 2,000Nm. It does 0-100kph in 2.7 seconds.

Both are all-wheel drive. With the optional Driver’s Package, they have a claimed top speed of 270kph.

    Battery and charging
The GT 53 has a 106kWh battery. It offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 668km. The GT 55 and GT 63 have a 128kWh battery. It offers up to 700km.

Both packs support DC fast charging at 600kW and 710kW. Mercedes-AMG says charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 11 to 12 minutes. It adds that these figures are preliminary.
