New Delhi: Superstar Aamir Khan has given fans plenty to celebrate after sharing a key update regarding a potential sequel to his blockbuster hit 3 Idiots. Speaking at the Singapore International Film Festival, where he was honoured with a prestigious award, the actor revealed that director Rajkumar Hirani is actively developing the script and is set to narrate the latest version to him soon.
Addressing the audience about his long film journey and future projects, Aamir did not dodge questions surrounding the anticipated 3 Idiots follow-up.
“Well, I'm not allowed to say a lot. I think I can say this much, and yes, Raju is working on the script. In fact, hopefully once I'm back in the next couple of weeks, he's going to narrate the final version to me. So, fingers crossed,” Aamir said during the session.
Elaborating on the narrative direction, Hirani had previously shared that the sequel moves past the college era to explore the trio's lives 15 to 20 years down the line, dealing with marriage, children, and mid-life crises.
In addition to the 3 Idiots update, Aamir hinted at movement around another fan-favourite classic. When asked about Rajkumar Santoshi's cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna, the actor acknowledged that the filmmaker is currently working on a project related to the movie.
While Aamir stopped short of confirming a direct sequel, his comments have sparked fresh optimism among fans hoping to see the iconic comedy world revisited.
The international event also marked a landmark milestone for the actor's career. Hong Kong-based filmmaker Peter Chan Ho-sun presented Aamir Khan with the Screen Icon Award, making him the first Indian actor to receive the prestigious honour at the festival.
