Security personnel of Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa, prevented a smuggling case on October 25, 2026, after the use of the ATRS-G system detected that an electronic cigarette was concealed inside a modified power bank. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) prevented the passenger when he was passing through routine pre-departure security screenings in order to board a Mumbai bound flight.
Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS-G) detected the anomaly in the cabin baggage of the passenger at about 09:05 AM.
Physical inspection: The X-ray screening team found a structural irregularity in the power bank and made it undergo mandatory physical inspection.
Uncovering concealment: The CISF personnel found that the inner parts of the power bank accessory had been modified in such a way to hide an electronic vape device.
Chain of custody: The screening team immediately informed the in-charge of the Screening Holding Area (SHA).
The passenger was expected to board IndiGo flight 6E-6014 from Goa to Mumbai at 10:05 AM.
The CISF handed over the person to the police department, who seized the goods and recorded an FIR.
The accused will be charged under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage, and Advertisement) Act, 2019, which provides stringent penalties for possession, transportation, and concealment of electronic vaporisers within Indian airports and flights.
