Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal has created history at the Ballon d’Or 2026 ceremony by winning the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive time. The young forward became the first footballer to win the award in three successive editions, adding another milestone to his rapidly growing career.
Yamal had previously claimed the prestigious honour in 2024 and 2025. His latest triumph further underlines his rise as one of the most exciting young players in world football.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign with Barcelona, playing a key role in the club’s La Liga and Spanish Super Cup triumphs.
In 45 appearances for the Catalan giants across competitions, Yamal scored 24 goals and provided 18 assists. His performances also earned him the Best Player award in La Liga for the 2025-26 season.
In the Spanish top flight, the forward recorded 16 goals and 11 assists, finishing as the league’s leading assist provider. His creativity, goalscoring ability and attacking contributions made him an important part of Barcelona’s success.
Yamal also represented Spain at the FIFA World Cup, featuring in eight matches and scoring once as the national team lifted the trophy.
The Kopa Trophy is presented by France Football to recognise the best under-21 footballer in the world. Introduced in 2018, the award is part of the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony and is named after former French footballer Raymond Kopa.
Barcelona have enjoyed considerable success in the award’s history. Pedri won the trophy in 2021, followed by Gavi in 2022, before Yamal began his unprecedented run of three consecutive victories.
