Spanish footballer Jesus de Miguel died on Tuesday, November 3, a day after suffering serious injuries during a second-division match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra. The 30-year-old striker was involved in a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during the closing stages of the match at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.
De Miguel was taken to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria after the incident and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Tenerife initially described his condition as stable despite the severity of his injuries before reporting a deterioration in his neurological condition. The club confirmed his death at 8 am local time on Tuesday.
In an official statement, Tenerife expressed grief over the loss and offered condolences to the player's family and loved ones.
"Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda," the club said.
The statement added that the club stood alongside his family and loved ones during the difficult time. It also said the family had thanked everyone for their messages of support and requested privacy.
The incident occurred in stoppage time during Monday's match, with the score tied at 2-2. De Miguel was chasing a long ball when Owono came out to intercept it, and the two players collided.
The Tenerife forward collapsed on the pitch following the impact and received immediate medical attention. Medical staff treated him before he was taken to hospital by ambulance. Reports said he suffered a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated during the emergency response.
Owono was shown a straight red card following the collision, and the match was eventually abandoned as medical personnel attended to De Miguel.
