India pacer Gurnoor Brar delivered a sensational performance in the second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday, November 7, picking up four wickets for just 30 runs in his 10 overs. With this impressive spell, the young Punjab pacer registered the third-best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in ODIs on New Zealand soil.
Young Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar made a significant mark in the second ODI against New Zealand with a brilliant four-wicket haul in Wellington. The right-arm pacer returned figures of 4/30 in 10 overs, helping India bowl out the hosts for just 134 runs in 41 overs.
Gurnoor's impressive spell also saw him enter an elite list of Indian bowlers who have produced outstanding bowling performances in New Zealand in ODI cricket.
His figures of 4/30 are now the third-best ODI bowling figures by an Indian bowler in New Zealand. Former India spinner Anil Kumble holds the record, having claimed five wickets for 33 runs against New Zealand in Wellington on March 30, 1994. Former India fast bowler Javagal Srinath occupies the second position with figures of 4/23, recorded in Auckland on December 26, 2002.
With his four-wicket haul, Gurnoor became only the fourth Indian fast bowler to claim four or more wickets in an ODI in New Zealand. Srinath leads the list among Indian pacers with two such performances, while Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh have also registered four-wicket hauls in the country.
Shami picked up four wickets for 55 runs against New Zealand in Napier in January 2014. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh returned figures of 4/70 in Auckland on November 4, 2026. Gurnoor's 4/30 performance has now placed him among India's most successful ODI bowling displays in New Zealand.
Gurnoor made an immediate impact after getting the opportunity to bowl, striking twice in the 20th over of New Zealand's innings. His first breakthrough came when he dismissed New Zealand batter Tom Latham, who was caught by Naman Dhir for seven runs off 22 deliveries.
On the final ball of the same over, Gurnoor struck again by removing Glenn Phillips for a four-ball duck. Phillips attempted an aerial shot but was caught by Anshul Kamboj. The young pacer returned to dismiss New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, who scored 31 runs before being caught by KL Rahul.
Gurnoor completed his four-wicket haul by dismissing Kyle Jamieson in his 10th over, with Rohit Sharma taking the catch.
Gurnoor was well supported by the other Indian bowlers, as Axar Patel, Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj picked up two wickets each. Arshdeep Singh, who had claimed four wickets in the previous ODI, went wicketless this time. India's inexperienced pace attack delivered an impressive performance, restricting New Zealand to 134 runs in 41 overs.
