Delhi batter Yash Dhull delivered a crucial performance under pressure, scoring an unbeaten century to help Delhi secure a draw against Services in their Elite Group C Ranji Trophy encounter at the Air Force Complex Ground in Palam on Thursday.
Chasing a challenging target of 320 runs, Delhi finished their second innings at 168/4 in 38 overs, with Dhull anchoring the innings through a composed yet attacking knock of 104 not out off just 104 deliveries. His innings featured 11 boundaries and two sixes, showcasing his ability to combine patience with aggressive strokeplay when the team needed it most.
Walking in with the responsibility of steering Delhi through a difficult chase, Dhull displayed tremendous composure, holding the innings together even as Services’ bowlers struck at regular intervals. He reached his century in just 102 balls, registering his first hundred of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season and providing Delhi with a valuable contribution in a challenging situation.
Delhi had found themselves under pressure at 119/4 shortly before tea following the dismissal of Ayush Doseja for 14. However, Dhull stood firm at one end, ensuring that Delhi avoided further setbacks and successfully negotiated the remaining overs to secure a draw.
Earlier, Services had declared their second innings at 397/9, powered by captain Rajat Paliwal’s second successive century of the match (116) and Mohit Ahlawat’s impressive 142, setting Delhi a formidable target.
Despite falling short of the target, Delhi secured three points on the basis of their first-innings lead. Dhull’s timely century emerged as one of the biggest positives for the side, underlining his batting temperament, consistency and ability to deliver in pressure situations.
With the Ranji Trophy taking a break for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Dhull will look to carry this momentum into the upcoming assignments.
