<p><strong>Karwa Chauth 2026:</strong> Karwa Chauth is only two days away, so if you are fasting this year, it is worth checking your city’s moonrise time now. The festival falls on Thursday, October 29, and married women will go without food and water through the day until the Moon shows up in the evening. After that comes Chandra Puja and the breaking of the fast. The timing is not the same everywhere, so your local Panchang is a better guide than any single national schedule. In New Delhi, the Moon is expected to rise at around 8:17 PM. In Mumbai, you will be waiting until around 9:00 PM.</p><p>Here is a city-wise guide to moonrise, puja muhurat, fasting hours and what to do once the Moon is out.</p><h2>Karwa Chauth 2026: Date and moonrise time</h2><p>Karwa Chauth is on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and it falls on the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. The fast runs from sunrise until the Moon is sighted in the evening.</p><p>For New Delhi, the fast begins at 6:31 AM and the Moon is expected to rise at 8:17 PM. The evening puja muhurat is from 5:38 PM to 6:56 PM. Since moonrise depends on where you are, check the local Panchang if you live outside the capital.</p><p><a href="https://english.zeenews.com/lifestyle/article-karva-chauth-2026-vastu-tips-puja-direction-diya-placement-and-moon-sighting-rules-3160297"><strong>ALSO READ | Karva Chauth Vastu tips: Expert guide on puja direction, diya placement, and moon sighting rules for maximum positivity</strong></a></p><h2>Moonrise time in major cities (October 29, 2026)</h2><p>All timings are in Indian Standard Time (IST). Check the city-wise timings here:</p><table class="table"><thead><tr><th scope="col">City</th><th scope="col">Expected Moonrise Time</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>New Delhi</td><td>8:17 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Noida</td><td>Around 8:16 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Gurugram</td><td>Around 8:18 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Chandigarh</td><td>Around 8:12 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Jaipur</td><td>Around 8:28 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Lucknow</td><td>Around 8:06 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Kolkata</td><td>Around 7:47 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Patna</td><td>Around 7:52 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Bhopal</td><td>Around 8:31 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Indore</td><td>Around 8:39 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Ahmedabad</td><td>Around 8:52 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Mumbai</td><td>9:00 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Pune</td><td>Around 8:58 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Hyderabad</td><td>Around 8:41 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Bengaluru</td><td>Around 8:55 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Chennai</td><td>Around 8:44 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Nagpur</td><td>Around 8:29 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Raipur</td><td>Around 8:18 PM</td></tr></tbody></table><h2>Puja muhurat and fasting timings</h2><table class="table"><thead><tr><th scope="col">Event</th><th scope="col">Date and Time</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Karwa Chauth</td><td>Thursday, October 29, 2026</td></tr><tr><td>Chaturthi Tithi Begins</td><td>1:06 AM, October 29</td></tr><tr><td>Chaturthi Tithi Ends</td><td>10:09 PM, October 29</td></tr><tr><td>Puja Muhurat</td><td>5:38 PM to 6:56 PM</td></tr><tr><td>Fasting Begins</td><td>6:31 AM</td></tr><tr><td>Expected Moonrise</td><td>8:17 PM</td></tr></tbody></table><p>The puja is usually done before moonrise. After that come the prayers to the Moon and the rituals that close the fast.</p><h2>Why does Moonrise time change from city to city?</h2><p>The Moon does not appear at the same moment across the country. When it rises depends on your longitude and latitude, which is why eastern cities like Kolkata see it earlier than western ones like Mumbai. Southern cities have their own timings too.</p><p>The weather matters as well. Clouds, haze, tall buildings or a blocked horizon can delay when you actually see the Moon, even after it has technically risen.</p><h2>What happens after Moonrise?</h2><p>Karwa Chauth is observed for the health, well-being and long life of one’s husband. Customs vary from family to family and region to region, but the Moon-sighting in the evening is the heart of the day. The usual steps are:</p><p>1. Prepare the puja thali: Arrange a diya, a karwa filled with water, flowers, sweets, kumkum and a sieve.</p><p>2. Do the evening puja: Worship Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and other deities, as your family does.</p><p>3. Wait for the Moon: The fast continues until the Moon is visible.</p><p>4. Offer arghya: Offer water to the Moon as part of Chandra Puja.</p><p>5. Break the fast: After the Moon-sighting and prayers, break your fast in the way your family follows.</p><p>Many women also look at the Moon and then at their husbands through a sieve before completing the ritual, a custom tied to devotion and the prayers of the day.</p>

<p><strong>Karwa Chauth 2026: </strong>Karwa Chauth is an important Hindu festival observed mainly by married women. On this day, women observe a strict fast without food or water and pray for their husbands' long life and well-being.</p><h2>Karwa Chauth 2026 date</h2><p>In 2026, Karwa Chauth will be observed on October 29. Like most Hindu festivals, the date isn't picked arbitrarily; it's based on Udaya Tithi, meaning whichever tithi is present at sunrise decides the day.</p><h2>Chaturthi tithi timing</h2><p>According to the Drik Panchang:</p><p><strong>Chaturthi Tithi begins</strong> at 1:07 AM on October 28</p><p><strong>Chaturthi Tithi ends </strong>at 10:11 PM on October 29</p><p>Since Chaturthi Tithi is present at sunrise on the 29th, the fast begins then.</p><p><a href="https://zeenews.com/lifestyle/article-karva-chauth-2026-vastu-tips-puja-direction-diya-placement-and-moon-sighting-rules-3160297"><strong>ALSO READ | Karva Chauth Vastu tips: Expert guide on puja direction, diya placement, and moon sighting rules for maximum positivity</strong></a></p><h2>Karwa Chauth 2026 significance</h2><p>There's real significance behind this one in Hindu tradition. Worshipping Goddess Parvati is believed to bring happiness, prosperity, and a long married life; that's the core belief. Lord Ganesha and Karwa Mata are worshipped alongside her too.</p><p>Married women keep the fast for their husbands. Some unmarried women observe it as well, praying instead for a good life partner down the road.</p><h2>Karwa Chauth 2026 puja vidhi</h2><p>The day begins early with a bath, then a sankalp, a vow to observe the fast. Many women eat sargi before sunrise, before the fasting begins in earnest.</p><p>Come evening, the puja area gets cleaned, and idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya are worshipped. Karwa Mata comes next; a diya is lit, and the Karwa Chauth vrat katha is recited and heard.</p><h2>Moon ritual and breaking the fast</h2><p>Then comes the wait for the Moon to rise. Women look at it through a sieve first, offering water, or arghya. Right after, they look at their husband through that same sieve.</p><p>Only then does the fast break with water offered from the husband's hands.</p><p>It's more than fasting, really. Karwa Chauth is love, devotion, faith all bundled into one day of ritual. For couples, this festival is a quiet reaffirmation of the bond they share and is rooted in tradition that's carried through generations.</p><p>(This article is intended for your general information only. Karwa Chauth 2026: Date, Chaturthi tithi timings, puja vidhi, and significance of sa

<p><strong>New Delhi: </strong>Karva Chauth is coming up on Thursday, October 29 in India, a day when married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for their husbands' well-being. This year's fast starts early: Chaturthi tithi starts at 1:06 am and ends at 10:09 pm on October 29, 2026, with the main ritual being to spot the moon before breaking the fast.</p><p>The Indian Institute of Vedic Science (IIVS) has shared a simple Vastu guide by Gurudev Vikrant Jain to help people understand the right placement of the puja area, the direction to face during the rituals, and how to arrange the moon offering. He says, “Vastu is not about fear. It is about creating a calm and peaceful space where your mind can settle. When your surroundings feel right, your prayers can feel more meaningful.”</p><h2>Where to set up the puja</h2><p>According to Vastu, the northeast corner is the best place for puja. If you have the desired amount of area, otherwise you can do it anywhere in the house. Gurudev Vikrant Jain says, "Place the thali and karwa here, and just keep the place clean and well organized. If the northeast is not free, the east or north wall is a good second choice."</p><h2>Which way to face</h2><p>During puja, sit facing east. Sunrises from the east. That’s why it is linked with positive energy and new starts. Place the idols or the picture of Shiv-Parvati according to your sitting. Avoid sitting directly on a bare floor. Use a mat or aasan.</p><h2>Direction guide at a glance</h2><p><strong>Item and Suggested Spot</strong></p><p><strong>Puja thali and karwa: </strong>Northeast corner</p><p><strong>Diya or lamp: </strong>Southeast corner of the puja area</p><p><strong>Your seating: </strong>Facing east or northeast</p><p><strong>Moon offering: </strong>Open terrace, balcony, or east-facing window</p><h2>Setting up the Moon offering</h2><p>The moon rises in the east, so choose a spot with a clear view of the sky. Wipe the area clean and keep a small stool or mat ready. "Stand facing the moon as you offer water. Keep the copper or steel lota clean and use fresh water. Avoid places near dustbins or dirty drains," he says.</p><h2>Vastu Do's</h2><p>1. Clear the place where you are going to do puja. A clean and tidy puja space brings positive energy</p><p>2. Place the diya in the southeast from the puja place. This direction is linked with fire.</p><p>3. Decorate the puja place using colorful lights. Dull color dims the looks of the place.</p><p>4. Arrange the karwa, sieve, diya, roli, and sweets in one neat thali, ready before the puja.</p><p>5. Fill fresh water in Karva and place it in the northeast direction.</p><p>6. Instead of sitting directly on the floor, sit on a mat or an assan.</p><p>7. Do one puja in the evening as well. Remove the old and dry flowers and new ones.</p><p>8. Pick a clean, open spot for the moon offering, like a terrace or east-facing window.</p><p>9. Keep a torch handy for the moon offering, especially if you are tired from the fast.</p><h2>Vastu Don'ts</h2><p>1. Avoid setting up the puja place near the area that has a lot of movement.</p><p>2. Don't set the puja place near the bathroom or any wet place.</p><p>3. Avoid placing puja thali directly on the floor. Or in a dark room as well.</p><p>4. Don't use a cracked or chipped karwa. According to Vastu, broken things lose their energy.</p><p>5. Avoid leaving or bringing your shoes near the puja place.</p><p>6. Don’t argue with or shout at someone throughout the day.</p><p>7. Make use of fresh flowers instead of using old flowers.</p><p>8. Keep the puja place simple and tidy, instead of placing too many idols at a single place.</p><p>9. Don't rush the set-up. If time is short, simplify the items, not the care.</p><p>"Don't worry if your home cannot follow every rule. A sincere prayer in a clean, calm corner is always better than a perfect set-up done in a rush," he adds.</p>
