US President Donald Trump has accused the Democratic Party of threatening Republican donors and party members, describing the alleged actions as "absolutely unprecedented and totally illegal". He has urged Republicans to report such incidents to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and called for those responsible to be jailed.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump asked Republican donors and party members to immediately bring any alleged threats to the attention of federal authorities or send details directly to the White House.

"The threats being made by the Democrat Party against innocent Republican Donors and Party Members are absolutely unprecedented, and totally illegal. Please report them to the Department of Justice, IMMEDIATELY! If you would like, send them directly to me, your President," Trump wrote.

Escalating his attack, the President said those allegedly involved in intimidation should face imprisonment.

"These SLEAZEBAGS should go to jail for what they are doing," he posted.

Trump also called on Republican leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as the Justice Department, to take action, accusing them of allowing Democrats to put pressure on the party.

"The Senate must act, and stop being pushed around to the point of the Republican Party losing Elections, and worse! Likewise, the DOJ and House of Representatives. Thank you for your attention to this matter," he added.

The latest remarks came minutes after Trump directed the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation into Democratic leaders over what he described as "extortion at the highest level".

The President accused Democrats of threatening the US Attorney General and other officials with impeachment and other forms of punishment, despite what he claimed was an absence of grounds for such action.

"The Democrats are going around threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States, and others, with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so, and there have been no impeachable acts committed, or even thought of, by the victims of this illegal process," Trump wrote.

He also alleged that prominent Republican donors were being threatened with imprisonment and other penalties because of their political affiliations.

"Also, they’re threatening our Donors, some of the most respected people anywhere in the World, with imprisonment, and many other levels of punishment, just because they happen to be Republicans, or Republican supporters. This is Weaponization and Lawfare at another level," he said.

Trump specifically targeted Michigan Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin, accusing her of seeking to intimidate young people who support Republican values.

"The Senator from Michigan, Elissa Slotkin, is saying that she is going to go after all young people that believe in Republican Values, and that give even the slightest inclination to be a Republican," he alleged.

He further called for those he described as "EXTORTIONISTS" to be imprisoned and urged Republicans to respond more firmly.

"Threatening letters have been sent to many people, all innocent, from Democrat Political Leaders. By copy of this statement, I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!" Trump added.

The accusations come amid growing tensions between the White House and Capitol Hill, with Democrats preparing to intensify congressional scrutiny of the administration through investigations, committee hearings and potential impeachment proceedings against senior officials.

    Democratic gains reshape political landscape

The political confrontation follows a sweeping Democratic victory in the November 7 elections, which reportedly handed the party control of both chambers of Congress in what has been described as a historic 'blue wave'.

The shift in congressional power presents a major challenge for Trump during the remainder of his presidential term. With Democrats controlling the House and Senate, the administration faces the prospect of increased scrutiny, legislative opposition and efforts to reverse its policies.

Democratic lawmakers are expected to push their own policy proposals, revisit executive actions taken by the administration and investigate its decisions and use of federal funds. They could also use congressional oversight powers, including hearings, subpoenas and committee inquiries, to put further pressure on the White House.

Meanwhile, Trump announced on November 7 that Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller would take over as White House Chief of Staff from November 9. The incumbent, Susie Wiles, is set to move to the President's political operation.

With Democrats preparing to use their newly strengthened position in Congress, the latest exchange signals an increasingly bitter political battle between the White House and its opponents.
