Skoda updated the Kushaq in March 2026. The mid-life refresh brought subtle design tweaks, a few new features and a new automatic gearbox. The facelift model has now been on sale for several months. It still competes in the crowded midsize SUV space against the Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra and Maruti Grand Vitara. The newer Hyundai Bayon has also joined that fight. If you are planning to buy a midsize SUV now, here are three reasons to consider the Kushaq and two reasons to think twice.
Reasons to buy
1. Quick and energetic engines
The Kushaq comes with two direct-injection turbo-petrol engines. One is a 115hp 1.0-litre. The other is a 150hp 1.5-litre. The 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI used to lurch forward from a standstill. The new 8-speed automatic has reduced that. The car still feels a little eager off the line, but it is far better controlled. It responds well and performs decently. The bigger 4-cylinder 1.5 TSI is the stronger performer. It shifts quickly and smoothly through the paddles. Of the two engines, this one feels smoother and more powerful.
2. A smooth, quick-shifting 8-speed automatic
The new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, paired with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, is smooth and shifts quickly. What stands out is how fast it shifts in manual mode. Use paddle shifters, and it feels almost like a dual-clutch gearbox.
3. Good body control and high-speed manners
The ride gets quite comfortable at high speeds. The 1.5 TSI feels slightly better cushioned than the 1.0 TSI. The Kushaq also rides well over dirt trails and keeps its composure. Body roll stays under control in corners, and the grip is reassuring. The 1.5 TSI models get rear disc brakes. They stop the car strongly and give you confidence.
Reasons to think twice
1. The ride feels firm at low city speeds
The Kushaq has a typical European feel. At low speeds, the ride is firm. You feel sharp edges over potholes and broken roads. Some suspension noise also enters the cabin because the insulation is light. That adds to the firm ride feel.
2. Refinement needs work
The smaller engine could be more refined. Engine noise is easy to hear inside the cabin, so more sound insulation would help. The bigger engine has the same problem. It likes to rev, but it gets loud when you push it. Road noise from rough surfaces also seeps in easily. The Kushaq needs better insulation.
