Patna: This marks a significant achievement for the medical sector in Bihar. Alongside Indian doctors travelling abroad to receive training in advanced medical technologies, foreign specialist doctors are now also coming to Patna for training. In this regard, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from Saudi Arabia, has completed a three-week international fellowship at the AIOR Superspeciality Unit in Patna. During this period, under the guidance of Dr. Ashish Singh and his expert orthopaedic team, he received training in advanced techniques of robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement, as well as complex revision joint replacement surgery.

The primary objective of this three-week fellowship was to promote specialisation and the international exchange of medical knowledge in the field of advanced joint replacement surgery. During the training, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah had the opportunity to gain insights through clinical observation, discussions on complex surgical cases, surgical planning, and a close understanding of modern surgical techniques.

This achievement is not only a matter of pride for the AIOR Superspeciality Unit but also for the entire medical community of Bihar. There was a time when Indian doctors had to travel abroad to access advanced surgical techniques and specialised training. Today, the arrival of international specialists in Patna for training reflects the continuous development of medical expertise, advanced technology, and training capabilities in India, particularly in Bihar.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ashish Singh, the AIOR Superspeciality Unit is continuously strengthening its expertise in robotic arthroplasty, complex joint reconstruction, and revision joint replacement surgery. Dr. Ashish Singh is also associated with Stryker as a MAKO International Proctor, reflecting his significant role in international surgical training and the exchange of knowledge about advanced techniques.

According to the institution, doctors are also getting opportunities to train under the guidance of Dr. Ashish Singh through a training collaboration with the UAE government. This initiative marks an important step towards international medical collaboration and the sharing of expertise.

On this occasion, Dr. Ashish Singh said, “It is a matter of great pride for us that a specialist orthopaedic surgeon from a country like Saudi Arabia chose Patna to learn about advanced techniques in modern robotic joint replacement and complex revision surgery. This reflects the growing medical expertise and training capabilities being developed in Bihar. Our objective is not only to provide better treatment to patients but also to share medical knowledge and familiarise doctors from India and abroad with modern surgical techniques.”

Dr. Ahmed Abdullah’s fellowship marks an important step towards establishing Patna as an emerging centre for international medical knowledge and training. Such international academic and training programmes not only strengthen professional relationships among doctors but also create new opportunities to advance modern medical technologies and improved treatment practices.

For the AIOR Superspeciality Unit, this achievement represents another significant step towards bringing international recognition to Bihar’s medical expertise and establishing Patna on the map of advanced orthopaedic training.
