Global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has officially announced Ventilator 2, the sequel to her acclaimed 2016 Marathi production. The upcoming project marks a major creative reunion, bringing Priyanka back together with filmmaker Rajesh Mapuskar, who returns to helm the project as both writer and director.
Taking to Instagram to share the announcement, Priyanka reflected on the journey of her production house and the milestone significance of the original film.
“10 years ago, with @purplepebblepictures, I decided I want to tell stories that mean something. Ventilator was one of those very important stories to us at the company. A decade later, we’re coming back to it, with so much more…”
Take a look:
The sequel is backed by producers Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Dr. Madhu Chopra, and Rajesh Mapuskar under the combined banners of Purple Pebble Pictures and Magij Pictures. While official plot details and the complete star cast remain under wraps, the film is slated for a theatrical release in 2027.
Released in 2016, the original Ventilator struck a chord with audiences and critics alike through its deeply human, tragicomic exploration of family dynamics. Centred around the Kamerkar family gathering at a hospital just days before Ganesh Chaturthi as an elder member is placed on life support, the film brilliantly blended humour, emotional vulnerability, and generational friction.
The directorial venture was a critical darling, bagging three prestigious National Film Awards, including Best Director for Rajesh Mapuskar, Best Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.
