The weather impact of the double blow of Cyclone Arnab and the western disturbance caused torrential rains and cold winds in Delhi and NCR till Friday morning. Rainfall that began early Thursday morning crossed the 50 mm mark in some areas of Western and Central Delhi, resulting in a seasonal temperature fall.

IMD gives yellow alert as temperature falls by 5.6 degrees

Persistent cloud cover and wind speeds of 30 to 50 km per hour caused Delhi's temperature to drop drastically to 25.4°C—5.6 degrees lower than the seasonal average and 6.4 degrees less than Wednesday's.

Minimum temperature: The night minimum temperature remained steady at 19.1°C in thickly overcast skies.

IMD forecast: The IMD kept a yellow alert forecast for the city, cautioning the people about localized waterlogging and slippery roads during morning commute time.

Affected areas: The rain spell was at its maximum in West and Central Delhi districts with light to moderate rains expected even till the afternoon of Friday.

Cloud cover disrupted Karwa Chauth celebrations

Heavy rainfall in the national capital and adjoining states of Haryana, Faridabad and Madhya Pradesh spoiled the Karwa Chauth festivities on Thursday evening.

The dense cloud coverage prevented the sighting of the moon well after the planned time in the national capital region.

Technology solutions: Thousands of fasting women made use of video conferencing with their families in cities where there was no cloud coverage such as Mumbai and Guwahati.

Traffic disruptions: In Rajasthan’s Alwar, long traffic jams developed on elevated flyovers as large groups assembled at high altitudes to catch a glimpse of the moon.
