A 40-year-old man and his 11-year-old son died early on Friday after falling from the balcony of their 23rd-floor flat at Mahagun Mywoods society in Bisrakh, Greater Noida. The victims were identified as Randeep Patra and his son Aarav, who lived in Tower 23.
The family was due to leave for the Khatu Shyam Temple a few hours later. Central Noida DCP Praveen Ranjan Singh said the police control room received a call on the 112 emergency number at about 4:20 am.
"At around 4:20 am, the police control room received information through 112 that two people had fallen at Mahagun Mywoods Society.
Police immediately reached the spot and found that two residents of Tower 23, 40-year-old Randeep Patra and his 11-year-old son, had fallen from the 23rd floor and died on the spot," DCP Praveen Ranjan Singh said.
Police and emergency response vehicles rushed to the high-rise complex, where both victims were found unconscious and immediately transported to a nearby hospital.
However, doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
During preliminary questioning, Randeep Patra’s wife told investigators that the family was preparing to leave early in the morning for a combined visit to the Khatu Shyam Temple and a property registration.
According to her statement, the father and son had stepped out onto the apartment balcony to pluck flowers for early morning worship (puja) when they accidentally slipped from a step or ladder and plunged from the 23rd-floor ledge.
Local authorities have completed the initial inquest proceedings (panchnama) and dispatched the bodies for post-mortem examinations.
Bisrakh police station officials confirmed that all surrounding circumstances of the tragedy are being thoroughly examined as part of ongoing legal and procedural inquiries.
