BJP's Central Election Committee has formally nominated Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri as its candidate in the Rajya Sabha byelection that is due in Madhya Pradesh shortly. Nomination of Puri comes in consequence of the resignation of Union Minister L. Murugan who left a gap in Rajya Sabha and the nomination process has been initiated now.
Here is the formal schedule set by the Election Commission of India for the Rajya Sabha upper house byelection:
Filing of nomination: Nomination Papers of candidates can be filed by 2 November 2026.
Date of polling: The polling will take place on 12 November 2026 while immediate vote counting will follow.
Electoral constituency: The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly members will elect the Rajya Sabha member.
Due to the majority that BJP commands in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, Puri stands in good stead for winning the seat comfortably.
Puri works in the Union cabinet and his election to the Madhya Pradesh upper house quota will ensure continued representation in Parliament.
