The family of a Hyderabad man who has spent about four months in a Dubai jail says he was held after he left his job without giving notice. They say they still do not know what case, if any, is registered against him, and have asked the Centre to step in.

Salman Fariz went to the UAE on October 3, 2025, after being promised a delivery job. His family paid about ₹35,000 to a travel agent for his ticket and visa. He joined a delivery service company as a delivery worker.

His father, Shafiq Baig, says Fariz worked eight to ten hours a day but was not paid his salary and had to cover his own food and accommodation.

After several months, Fariz decided to quit and return to India.

The family alleges that his employer held on to his passport and did not return it despite repeated requests.

Baig said the family slowly lost contact with his son and could not reach him by phone. They later learnt that Fariz had been arrested by Dubai Police and was in a jail in the city.

The family says it has received no clear information about why he was arrested, whether there is a case or charge against him, or what his legal position is.

In a letter dated September 16, Baig asked External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to intervene through the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai.

He asked the missions to find out where his son is and what his legal status is, and to provide consular and legal help.

He has also asked the Indian authorities to get details of any case against Fariz, arrange consular access, and check on his welfare.

The family has appealed for his release and return to India, provided there is no legal bar to his departure.

Baig said the family's finances do not allow him to travel to Dubai or hire a private lawyer for his son.

The matter was raised publicly by Majlis Bachao Tehreek leader Amjedullah Khan, who shared the father's appeal on X and urged the Ministry of External Affairs to act.

However, the employer's version has not been reported, and it is not clear whether the company filed any complaint against Fariz.
