IPS officer Preeti Yadav takes charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Noida Zone 1, making her the first female officer to head this vital urban sector. Following the transfer of IPS officer Saad Miyan Khan to the Agra Police Commissioner's office, Laxmi Singh, the Police Commissioner, assigned the 2019-batch officer to this position during a major administrative reshuffle in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Current appointment: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Noida Zone 1.
Batch: Joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2019.
UPSC performance: All India Rank (AIR) 466 in UPSC CSE 2018 (success on her second attempt).
Hometown & age: Rewari, Haryana. Born on April 10, 1996.
Educational qualification: Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours in Geography.
Key expertise: Cybercrime investigation and women's safety management.
Yadav's father, who was in the police service, motivated her by virtue of being herself in general public service.
Yadav's father started as a police constable and went on to become an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). His appeal to the children has been to keep good ambitions and become a class apart to run the police.
"Since my childhood, I had an aspiration to join the civil services. I saw my father, who started his service as a constable, and at that time he was in the post of ASI. So, I used to get a lot of inspiration from him," Yadav shared in an interview with Sansad TV.
She credits her success to three main pillars: clear goal-setting early in life, constant family encouragement, and dedicated mentorship from her teachers.
Yadav's path to the Indian Police Service required resilience after a close miss on her first attempt.
First attempt: She successfully cleared the preliminary exam and reached the interview stage but missed the final Mains cutoff margin by just 21 marks.
Second attempt: Analyzing her preparation gaps, she re-appeared for the examination, secured AIR 466, and qualified directly for the Indian Police Service.
Noida Zone 1 represents one of the busiest commercial and residential hubs within the National Capital Region (NCR).
Yadav brings hands-on field experience from previous postings focused on modern cybersecurity protocols and women's safety initiatives. Her administration aims to strengthen urban policing, streamline traffic management, and enhance public safety measures across the zone.
