A devastating tragedy shook a high-tech residential enclave in Pimpri-Chinchwad after a 33-year-old woman and her six-year-old son lost their lives after falling from the 18th floor of a residential tower on Friday evening. The deceased has been identified as Ekta Manoj Bhangad and her young son, Madhav.
Investigators recovered a heartbreaking multi-page suicide note. In the letter, the mother explicitly requested her husband to remarry after her passing and detailed her intense mental distress over a prolonged, painful medical condition.
The Wakad police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are actively probing the incident as a suspected murder-suicide, carefully analysing the exact sequence of events that led to the child's fall alongside his mother.
On Friday at 6:30 pm, security guards and residents discovered the two bodies lying on the ground floor of the housing society. A team from the Wakad police station arrived swiftly, immediately cordoning off the area and securing the complex's surveillance feeds.
Preliminary scanning of the CCTV footage revealed chilling final moments: Ekta was seen holding her son Madhav’s hand, calmly guiding him into the society lift, and taking him straight up to the 18th floor. A specialised forensic team closely mapped out the top-floor ledge before both bodies were shifted to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri for post-mortem examinations.
The family had originally migrated from Rajasthan and had been residing at Signature Park for the past two years. Ekta’s husband, Manoj Bhangad, works as a software engineer with a prominent IT firm in Pune’s Yerawada tech corridor and was at his office when the horrific incident took place.
A meticulous search of the family’s apartment led police to the handwritten note left behind by Ekta. The emotional letter, spanning several pages, gave a raw insight into her deteriorating health and anxieties over her family's future.
Senior Police Inspector Vitthal Salunkhe of the Wakad police station confirmed that the note heavily detailed her battles with a severe spinal ailment that she had been undergoing medical treatment for over several years. Stricken by the constant physical agony and deeply worried about how her illness would impact her child's upbringing, Ekta wrote out her final wishes, pleading with her husband to start a new life and find a companion to take care of the household after she was gone.
While the initial evidence strongly points toward a planned suicide driven by medical depression, senior investigators emphasised that the note is undergoing official forensic handwriting verification. Detectives are currently interviewing immediate family members, neighbours, and attending doctors to verify the deceased woman’s detailed psychiatric and medical background.
