Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday, just hours after being discharged from Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune. The 85-year-old former Union minister had spent two days at the Pune hospital after complaining of a cough and chest pain. His fresh admission prompted concern among party workers and supporters.
Baramati Lok Sabha MP and NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule confirmed that her father had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pawar had left Ruby Hall Clinic after doctors reported an improvement in his condition and said his chest discomfort had eased. He was seen leaving the hospital in a wheelchair before travelling to Mumbai with family members. Although doctors had advised him to rest following his treatment, he was admitted to another hospital later in the day for further medical attention.
Confirming Pawar's discharge, Ruby Hall Clinic Chairman, Managing Trustee and Chief Cardiologist Dr Purvez Grant said the NCP (SP) chief was "stable and doing well". He also said Pawar was expected to travel to his residence in Mumbai.
Pawar was admitted to the Pune hospital on Monday after complaining of a cough and pleuritic chest pain. The condition causes pain that can worsen while breathing or coughing. Doctors kept him under observation as a precaution and monitored his health before deciding that he could be discharged on Wednesday morning.
During his hospital stay, Sule had said on social media that her father was undergoing medical tests and that his health parameters were stable. Following his discharge, she thanked the doctors and hospital staff for their care and acknowledged the messages and wishes received from supporters and well-wishers.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Pawar over the telephone on Wednesday morning to enquire about his health. According to the veteran politician's aide, Vitthal Maniyar, PM Modi advised Pawar to take adequate rest.
The latest hospitalisation follows two earlier admissions to Ruby Hall Clinic in February 2026. Pawar was first admitted on February 9 with chest congestion and discharged on February 14. However, he returned to the hospital on February 22 after experiencing mild dehydration. Doctors administered fluids and kept him under observation before allowing him to leave.
Before his latest health complaints, Pawar had been visiting drought-affected areas of Maharashtra and interacting with farmers. However, his scheduled programmes were interrupted after he developed health problems, leading to his admission to the Pune hospital.
Pawar is one of Maharashtra's most prominent political leaders. He founded the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999 and has served as the state's Chief Minister as well as a Union Minister holding the defence and agriculture portfolios.
Following a split in the Nationalist Congress Party, he continued to lead the Sharadchandra Pawar faction, known as the NCP (SP). His daughter, Supriya Sule, represents Baramati in the Lok Sabha and is among the party's senior leaders.
