Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday alleged that forces seeking to weaken India’s unity were operating through networks with foreign links and support. He urged citizens to remain alert and identify what he described as coordinated efforts to divide the country.

Addressing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas gathering at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, Modi said attempts were being made to create divisions among Indians and turn citizens against one another. He accused such forces of exploiting political discontent and spreading misinformation to create instability.

“Who is secretly meeting whom abroad? Whom are anti-India forces supporting? Who is speaking the language of India’s enemies? We must recognise all these patterns,” the Prime Minister said.

#WATCH | Ekta Nagar, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "When the country was searching for solutions to external challenges, certain forces inside the country were busy trying to create instability by spreading lies and rumours. However, the citizens stood shoulder to shoulder with the nation. This is the greatest strength of this country, and it serves as the ultimate foundation for our courage." (Source: DD News)

PM Modi flags social media misinformation

Modi called for a united response to what he described as conspiracies aimed at dividing the country. He also expressed concern over the use of social media to spread rumours and damage India’s image.

“The way social media is being used as a weapon, rumours are being spread, and attempts are being made to tarnish India’s image, citizens will have to deal with these together,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s remarks formed part of a broader appeal for national unity amid global uncertainty, with wars, economic difficulties, resource shortages and disruptions to supply chains posing challenges for countries around the world.

He said India’s unity had helped the country withstand external pressures, including the recent global energy crisis.

‘Collective resolve is one of India’s greatest strengths’

Modi said that while India was working to address challenges arising from the international situation, certain forces within the country were allegedly attempting to create instability through misinformation.

“Citizens had remained united with the nation during the difficult period. The collective resolve is one of India’s greatest strengths,” he said.

The Prime Minister also criticised the Opposition, accusing it of moving away from its democratic responsibilities and becoming an obstacle to development. He said attempts to undermine constitutional values and national unity needed to be recognised.

Calling on citizens to remain vigilant against divisive activities, Modi said the country must stay united while working towards its broader national objectives.

“The country must remain united while pursuing its larger national goals,” he said.

Reiterating the government’s ambition to make India a developed nation by 2047, Modi said efforts towards achieving the target should not be derailed by internal or external challenges.
