In a striking display of personal conviction, a teenage groom-to-be from Kishtwar postponed his own wedding to attend the resignation rally of senior National Conference leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
Abrar Ahmad, a teenager, was scheduled to marry on the same day Ruhullah had announced he would formally step down a date that also marked the death anniversary of Ruhullah’s father. Rather than proceeding with the marriage, Abrar put the wedding on hold and traveled nearly 300 kilometers from the Chenab Valley to the rally venue in Budgam.
Speaking to Zee News on the sidelines of the event, Abrar shared why he feels Ruhullah stands out from other political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir. “He values his word more than power. He keeps his promises, and he has sacrificed his position,” the young man said. For him, attending the rally took priority over his wedding. “The rally could not be postponed, so I postponed my marriage,” he added.
In a political climate where public trust in politicians remains low, Abrar’s decision highlights how certain leaders still command deep personal loyalty. The teenager’s long journey from Kishtwar and his willingness to delay one of the most significant days of his life underscore the profound impact Ruhullah has made on his supporters.
