Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya is reportedly close to completing a blockbuster trade to Punjab Kings ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season, in an exchange that would see India pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod move to the five-time champions.
According to a report published by Sportstar, negotiations between the top management of both franchises have progressed considerably, with key terms largely agreed upon ahead of the upcoming player retention and trading window.

Framework Of Blockbuster Trade
Punjab Kings' Acquisition: Under the proposed terms, the Ricky Ponting-coached PBKS will secure the services of Hardik Pandya to bolster their leadership and provide an elite Indian seam-bowling all-rounder. PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting is understood to have prioritized bringing in an experienced all-rounder capable of altering team dynamics in both departments.
Mumbai Indians' Package: In return, Mumbai Indians will receive India's frontline left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh alongside wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod. The addition of Arshdeep would give MI an established death-overs specialist to complement their pace battery.
Neither Mumbai Indians nor Punjab Kings has issued an official statement regarding the agreement, with formal ratification from the IPL governing council expected once the trade paperwork is concluded.
Prior Negotiations And Broader Implications
Hardik's future at Mumbai Indians had been subject to speculation following the conclusion of the previous IPL season. Before advancing talks with Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians had reportedly explored swap avenues with other franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Dispatches indicated MI were interested in young seamers and top-order bats, but agreements stalled as teams were reluctant to part with core young talents.
Arshdeep had been released by Punjab ahead of the 2025 mega-auction but was re-acquired using the Right to Match card. After SRH raised their successful bid from Rs 15.75 crore to Rs 18 crore, PBKS matched the offer to retain the left-arm pacer. His likely departure could also trigger another deal for PBKS. The franchise may approach LSG for a swap involving left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.
On the other hand, Hardik’s arrival is expected to limit Stoinis’s role, while Mohsin, fitness permitting, is rated highly by the Punjab think-tank.
Hardik had returned to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash trade from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024, following a successful two-season stint with the franchise, which he had captained to the title in 2022.
His subsequent three seasons as MI captain, however, yielded little success, with the team finishing near the bottom of the standings twice.
