New Delhi: Placing the capital in the moderate category, Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 168 on Tuesday (October 27) morning, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Toxic white foam reappeared on the Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj.The AQI stood at 164 at 7 am on Monday (October 26), also in the moderate category. Tuesday’s reading showed a slight rise from the previous day.Several parts of the national capital recorded poor air quality. Jahangirpuri topped the list with an AQI of 251, followed by Rohini at 237, RK Puram at 234, Dwarka Sector 8 at 223, Bawana at 216, IIT Delhi at 214, IGI Airport Terminal 3 at 211 and Punjabi Bagh at 200.Other monitoring stations recorded moderate air quality. Chandni Chowk reported an AQI of 198, Alipur 197, Patparganj 195 and Anand Vihar 175. The readings stood at 150 in IGNOU Maidan Garhi, 146 at JNU and 129 at Narela.Anti-smog guns were seen spraying water on roads to control dust pollution across the city.Greater Noida had an AQI of 156, while Noida stood at 143. Both cities fell in the moderate category. Mumbai’s AQI was 98, in the satisfactory category. Kalanagar recorded an AQI of 139 and fell in the moderate category.Under CPCB guidelines, an AQI of 0-50 is classified as good, 51-100 as satisfactory, 101-200 as moderate, 201-300 as poor, 301-400 as very poor and 401-500 as severe.<h2>Toxic foam returns to Yamuna</h2>Thick white foam was seen floating on the Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj in Delhi-NCR. Latest visuals showed large patches of foam covering the river’s surface, a sign of persistent pollution.The foam reappeared days after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the government’s efforts to revive the Yamuna. She had described the inauguration of infrastructure projects worth around Rs 9,000 crore as a “joyful day” for residents.

Showing the presence of fine particles in the air, PM2.5 was the leading pollutant at 30 stations.Jahangirpuri recorded the highest AQI at 246, followed by Vivek Vihar at 235, CRRI Mathura Road at 231, Punjabi Bagh at 225 and R K Puram at 223. All five stations fell in the ‘poor’ category.PM2.5 was the main pollutant at Jahangirpuri, Vivek Vihar, Punjabi Bagh and R K Puram. At CRRI Mathura Road, PM10 was the leading pollutant.<h2>Yamuna foam returns</h2>Air pollution continues to affect Delhi and National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR) as toxic white foam has reappeared on the Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj. The region's overall AQI reached 168 on Sunday, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category under the standard CPCB classification.Monitoring stations recorded differences across the city. The AQI was around 110 at PGDAV College in Sriniwaspuri, while several other locations recorded readings ranging from 118 to above 180. PM2.5 and PM10 were the main pollutants across the region.The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR on October 21 in response to worsening pollution levels.Under GRAP Stage 1, the use of coal and firewood in tandoors at hotels, restaurants and open-air eateries is prohibited. The rules also restrict the use of diesel generators to essential and emergency purposes.<h2>Yamuna pollution after Rs 9,000-cr project push</h2>Visuals from Kalindi Kunj showed large patches of white foam floating on the Yamuna's surface. Huge sheets of toxic chemical foam were floating in the Yamuna River at Kalindi Kunj on Saturday morning, marking the alarming levels of environmental pollution and bad air quality across the Delhi-NCR region. Real-time data from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that several air quality monitors in Delhi-NCR have moved into the 'poor' AQI range (201-300), largely due to low wind speed and seasonal stagnation.<h2>Polluted air pervading Delhi-NCR spots</h2>CPCB monitoring of the air pollution levels shows alarming rise in pollution level at some spots across suburbs and industrial areas of Delhi-NCR:Highest pollution level spots: AQI level at Alipur was 258, while at DTU and IIT Delhi, AQI readings were 251 and 227, respectively.NCR suburb highest pollution levels: The highest AQI level was recorded in Noida Sector-62 at 270, and next at Noida Sector-125 at 212.AQI moderate pollution spots: AQI level at Burari was 181, while at Anand Vihar it was 175.According to CPCB's AQI standards, levels ranging between 0-50 are considered 'good,' 51-100 'satisfactory,' 101-200 'moderate,' 201-300 'poor,' 301-400 'very poor,' and 401-500 'severe.'<h2>Yamuna river pollution reaches critical levels</h2>The appearance of dense toxic froth at Kalindi Kunj highlights unmitigated surfactant and phosphate discharges entering the river from industrial effluents and untreated domestic sewage upstream.Local authorities have deployed water-sprinkling teams and chemical defoaming agents near key riverbanks ahead of upcoming festive gatherings.<h2>Delhi weather forecast and wind dynamics</h2>The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts partly cloudy skies across Delhi-NCR over the weekend, with variable wind speeds influencing pollutant dispersal.Temperature ranges: Maximum daytime temperatures will range between 32°C and 34°C, with nighttime minimums hovering above normal between 18°C and 20°C.Wind speed patterns: Easterly morning winds running up to 12 km/h will shift north-easterly during the afternoon, reaching peak speeds of 20 km/h before slowing to 16 km/h by evening.Sunday outlook: Similar conditions will persist through Sunday, with minimum temperatures dropping slightly to between 17°C and 19°C.
