These timeless words remind us that the actions we take today shape the strength and security of tomorrow. As India moves toward the ambitious IRDAI’s vision of “Insurance for All by 2047,” nurturing financial awareness from an early age becomes essential. Childhood is when curiosity is strongest, habits begin to form, and foundational understanding takes root, thus, making it the ideal stage to introduce the basics of financial protection.
Although insurance is often seen as something only older people need to think about, this belief is far from true. Children grow up in a world filled with both opportunity and unpredictability, and early familiarity with protection concepts helps them navigate this environment with clarity and confidence.
Today’s young generation faces increasing digital engagement, cyber risks, road safety incidents, and climate-related uncertainties. Their learning journeys already include subjects that build logic, creativity, and problem-solving and therefore, by introducing insurance concepts alongside these learnings simply expands the toolkit with which children understand how families prepare for life’s uncertainties.
Insurance education plays a quiet but powerful role. When children discover that insurance is a practical way to share risk and stay prepared, terms like premium, coverage, and claims start feeling familiar rather than complicated. More importantly, they begin to understand that insurance is not about expecting the worst as it is about ensuring stability, resilience, and confidence when the worst happens.
Further early exposure aligns beautifully with India’s demographic strength. With more than half of India’s population is under 35, young people will shape the country’s economic transformation. Equipping them with insurance awareness helps them enter adulthood with clarity, knowing how protection strengthens their income, assets, health, and aspirations.
In line with this mission, HDFC ERGO General Insurance, India’s leading private sector general insurer, has spent a decade nurturing early insurance understanding through its flagship initiative, Insurance Quiz Junior, designed for 8th and 9th-grade students. What began in 2016 with just 18 schools has grown into a nationwide movement reaching nearly 3 million students. In 2026 alone, more than 16,900 students from 4,850 schools across 28 states and 8 union territories participated. Conducted in 10 languages and covering 76% of India’s districts, it stands as one of the country’s largest and most inclusive school-based financial awareness programmes.
Such efforts help create a generation that reads policies carefully, asks informed questions, avoids underinsurance, and chooses protection thoughtfully. These behaviours strengthen India’s financial ecosystem and support its long-term goal of universal insurance coverage.
By bridging the insurance knowledge gap in childhood, India is not just preparing informed individuals, in fact it is building a financially resilient generation ready to lead a more secure tomorrow.
