In a fresh notice, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has said that Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates applying for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 can use their passport as identity proof while registering.

In a fresh notice, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has said that Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates applying for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 can use their passport as identity proof while registering.

The clarification comes as the JEE Main application 2027 window is open for candidates till November 22, 2026.

The agency made the announcement on its official X account in reply to a candidate's question. The candidate had asked how an NRI student with no Aadhaar, PAN or driving licence could register, and whether a passport would be accepted. NTA confirmed that it would.

The clarification matters because the form asks for an ID, and Aadhaar, PAN, a driving licence or an APAAR ID are the documents listed first.

Many NRI students living abroad don't hold any of these. With NTA's reply, they can register with a passport instead.

Besides identity proof, candidates need to upload a live photograph, a scanned passport-size photograph, a signature and their Class 10 certificate or marksheet. They also need to upload address proof, which can include a passport.

Foreign nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) applicants have a separate requirement. They must upload a scanned copy of their non-Indian passport, as set out in the Information Bulletin.

NRI candidates should read the Information Bulletin and complete the form on the official website before the deadline.

NTA has said that all updates will be posted on its official channels.
