A nine-year-old Class 3 student at a school in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar died on Wednesday after she collapsed in her classroom. Police are going through CCTV footage and other material to establish what happened.
Delhi Police said they got a PCR call about the girl at about 9:52 am on November 4. She was taken to hospital in Nirman Vihar, where doctors declared her dead.
In their initial inquiry, police checked the classroom CCTV recording, which reportedly shows the girl falling suddenly.
In the clip, she walks into the classroom, puts a hand on her waist and then drops to the floor.
Her teacher picks her up at once and tries to seat her on a chair, but the child seems to be unconscious. The teacher then runs out of the room, returns within a few seconds and carries the girl out.
Footage from other parts of the school reportedly shows her climbing a staircase with other students. Another clip shows her in an indoor area of the school with a group of children.
Early information points to a possible heart attack, but police said the exact cause and circumstances are yet to be established.
Officials said they have not yet recorded the statements of the girl’s parents or the school authorities. Police are continuing to examine the CCTV footage and other evidence, and the investigation is on to find out what led to her death.
