The IMD has forecast heavier rainfall across parts of southern and eastern India later this week. Some areas could receive extremely heavy showers. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh could also see thunderstorms and intense rain towards the end of October.

New Delhi: A depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26. The storm is likely to bring heavy rain and strong winds to parts of southern and eastern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to witness worsening weather over the next few days.

The storm is forecast to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 27. It could intensify further before approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast around October 28, according to the IMD.

The department has issued weather warnings for coastal areas because rainfall and strong winds are expected to affect several states over the coming days.

Where will it rain on Oct 26?

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Monday (October 26). Some areas could experience very heavy to extremely heavy showers. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive rain and thunderstorms on October 26. Strong surface winds are also forecast. The weather is expected to worsen on October 27 and 28, when extremely heavy rainfall is forecast in parts of the state. The IMD has also warned of heavy rain in coastal Odisha later in the week.

The storm is expected to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast after intensifying over the Bay of Bengal. Authorities are monitoring coastal conditions as it strengthens.

Rain forecast for Bihar and UP

Thunderstorms and lightning are forecast across Bihar from October 27, along with a change in weather conditions. Heavy rainfall is likely on October 29, followed by very heavy rain on October 30 and 31, according to the IMD.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh is also expected to experience rain and thunderstorms later in the week. The department has forecast very heavy rainfall in parts of the region on October 29 and 30, with heavy rain possible on October 31. Western Uttar Pradesh could experience thunderstorms and lightning on October 29 and 30.

Will Delhi-NCR get rain on Oct 26?

Delhi-NCR is not under a rain warning for October 26 in the IMD’s latest subdivision-wise forecast. The department has also listed no weather warning for Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh through October 31 in the bulletin issued on October 25. This means the forecast does not support claims of a rain alert for the capital region during this period.

The main weather threat over the next few days is expected in southern and eastern India, particularly areas near the Bay of Bengal.
