Cosmoserve Space, a startup located in Hyderabad, has launched Base 1, making it the first private space technology entity in India that has space vision effect and microgravity simulation systems. The establishment is only the 6th one operating in the world in this sphere, representing a comprehensive hub that gives the opportunity to carry out active space debris collecting and services for satellites.
Base 1 is inaugurated by D. Sridhar Babu (the Minister of IT and Industry in Telangana) and Dr. Jitendra Singh (the Minister of State), who participated in the ceremony remotely.
Base 1 possesses certain necessary means officially stated to enable the design and assembly of all types of equipment used for satellite servicing and cleaning in space.
The company has four proper laboratories to fulfill the missions they have.
1. Orbital Rendezvous & Capture Lab – simulating the process of the docking and capturing of space objects in the autonomous mode;
2. Space Robotics Innovation Lab – developing different mechanical systems for high-precision capturing spacecraft;
3. ISO Class 8 Clean Room – the laboratory for assembling satellites and preparing them for launching;
4. Mission Simulation & Control Centre - the headquarter for conducting all types of tech testing and monitoring.
At this moment in time, Cosmoserve obtains approximately 60% of components used in its mission from domestic suppliers. The company plans to manufacture all it needs such as optics, avionics, and space-grade electronics by its own efforts.
Following Base 1’s opening, Cosmoserve has raised $6 million in its pre-seed round, with total investments surpassing $9 million.
Subsequently, the company, after the first payload test held on July 2026 dubbed Mission Embrace on Vikram-1 rocket made by Skyroot Aerospace. The experimental payload took just four months to be constructed and provided essential operational information, despite partial petal-unfolding.
"Space debris is becoming the limiting factor for every nation’s space ambition, including India’s," said Dr. Chiranjeevi Phanindra, Founder & CEO of Cosmoserve Space. "Base 1 gives us the capability under one roof to keep orbits usable for Gaganyaan, the Bharatiya Antariksh Station, and every commercial satellite that follows."
The arrival of Base 1 reinforces Hyderabad’s status as a dominant aerospace and defense hub in South Asia.
The region currently hosts over 30 spacetech startups, 52 national research laboratories, and a local supplier network capable of meeting 90% of regional component demand.
