Chandra Layout police have arrested two people for allegedly threatening a man with a knife and stealing about 226 grams of gold jewellery, valued at roughly Rs 20 lakh, from a house in Nagarabhavi. The meeting that led to the robbery was arranged on a dating app.
According to the complaint, the man got in touch with someone on the app and invited the person to the house on the same night. The visitor arrived wearing a face mask and had presented as a woman.
The complainant is said to have realised only after letting the visitor in that the person was transgender.
Police say the visitor then called a second person to the house. The two began going through the rooms, and when the man asked what they were doing, they allegedly threatened him with a knife and warned him against making a noise or interfering.
They are said to have searched the cupboards and left with the gold ornaments.
After the complaint, police traced the suspects and arrested Nazia and Syed Moushin. Investigators are now trying to recover the stolen jewellery and are examining how the robbery was planned.
The accused have been arrested and have not been convicted.
Police have often advised people to be careful when inviting strangers met on dating apps to their homes, and not to leave valuables unguarded.
