A Singapore-based executive was shot dead in Faridabad following a parking dispute. Police arrested his 44-year-old neighbour, while an earlier disagreement over a pet dog also emerged as a possible factor.

A 42-year-old executive who had travelled from Singapore for a family wedding was shot dead after a dispute with a neighbour over parking in Faridabad, near Delhi. The victim, Paramjeet Dhankhar, was attacked outside his home in Sector 21C on Friday evening. Police arrested the accused, identified as Mohan alias Monu Sharma, near DLF Chowk in Ballabgarh on Saturday.

Faridabad shooting: Argument over parking turns fatal

Police said Dhankhar reached his residential building around 8 pm after visiting a gym. He reportedly found Sharma's car in a parking space used by his family and asked him to move it. An argument followed in the parking area of the building, where the two families lived on different floors.

Sharma, who lived on the third floor, allegedly took out a licensed pistol and fired repeatedly at Dhankhar. Investigators estimated that 15 to 16 rounds were discharged. Several bullets struck Dhankhar, who died following the attack, police said. Some media reports put the number of bullets that hit him at eight or nine.

Sharma also allegedly fired at Dhankhar's son, Shaurya, after shooting his father. Shaurya escaped without being hit by taking cover behind parked vehicles.

Dhankhar, originally from Hisar, had been living in Singapore for work. He arrived in Faridabad on November 5 and was due to attend his nephew's wedding on November 24. His wife, son and daughter lived in the first-floor flat of house number 641. He had also returned to spend Diwali with his family, police said.

Dhankhar had previously served as a regional business head for Tech Mahindra in the Asia-Pacific region, according to his professional profile cited in media reports. He was working as a senior vice-president at FPT Software, a Vietnam-headquartered technology company.

Police examine earlier disputes between neighbours

As per the police besides the use of parking spaces, the families had argued over allegations that Sharma's son brought their pet dog into the common parking area and allowed it to defecate there.

Dhankhar's family had reportedly objected to the practice several times. Four or five days before the shooting, Sharma allegedly quarrelled with Dhankhar's son, Shaurya. Police said the earlier matter had been settled after the family approached them.

The disagreement resurfaced on Friday evening when Dhankhar asked Sharma to move his car from the parking space. Following the shooting, Sharma allegedly fled the area with members of his family. Shaurya contacted the police, prompting officers to visit the building.

Teams from the local police, Crime Branch and Forensic Science Laboratory examined the scene and collected spent cartridges. Police also began searching for the accused.

Monu Sharma arrested in Ballabgarh; murder case registered

By Saturday afternoon, police confirmed that Monu Sharma, 44, had been arrested near DLF Chowk in Ballabgarh. He was identified as a scrap dealer and was being questioned about the incident and the pistol allegedly used in the firing.

A murder case was registered at Surajkund police station on a complaint by Shaurya. Police said the FIR also names Sharma's wife Divya, son Mayank, daughter Naina and brother Hetram.
