A viral video shows a man setting up a makeshift paan shop on a lower berth inside a train AC coach, sparking a massive debate online over rules and hygiene.

In the viral video, a person is shown setting up a miniature paan shop in a running AC train coach on a lower berth. Instead of sleeping on the berth, this vendor has covered his seat with a cloth, kept all his ingredients ready, and started making fresh paans for other passengers in the same moving train.

Details inside the viral train AC coach paan video

The video, first posted on X by the user @indiain24hr, shows the vendor sitting and carefully making multiple paans in a 3rd AC coach.

According to the passenger who had recorded the video, the vendor had received an order for making 20 to 25 paans from fellow passengers during the train journey between Mumbai and Chhattisgarh.

All the surrounding passengers had stared at the vendor in utter disbelief as he started selling paans from a moving train, which had turned into an impromptu betel leaf shop.

Cleanliness and railway rules in discussion

Although the video has entertained many viewers online, it has also raised many discussions on cleanliness and rules of railway travel online.

Issues of cleanliness: Another criticism was directed towards train berths being places where one sits and sleeps, and thus, they were not suitable locations for handling and preparing food items.

Issues of railway regulations: The online community was unsure whether it was illegal to sell things without permission from Indian Railways in an AC compartment.

As of today, Indian Railways has not officially responded to the matter. The video is still gaining more views while people argue about the limits of the jugaad culture.
