A day earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had taken a swipe at the BJP and SAD amid speculation over a possible alliance.

Amid speculation over a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday alleged that the two parties had never truly severed ties and continued to maintain a “secret alliance”.
Speaking to reporters in Ludhiana, the former Punjab Chief Minister accused the BJP and SAD of working together to introduce the three farm laws in 2020, which the Centre later repealed following widespread protests.
The Akali Dal walked out of its alliance with the BJP in September 2020 over the farm laws.
Channi alleged that the break-up had not ended the parties’ political understanding.
“The Akali-BJP alliance never truly broke. They worked together to impose those ‘black’ farm laws on Punjab. Since then, they have maintained a secret alliance. Now, it remains to be seen whether the cat will finally come out of the bag or continue to remain hidden,” he said.
Channi made the remarks as Congress marked the Pragat Diwas of Maharishi Valmiki in Ludhiana. On the occasion, he announced that a Congress government in Punjab would establish a university named after Maharishi Valmiki if the party returned to power in 2027.
He said the proposed institution would provide free education to children and young people from poor and middle-class families, irrespective of caste, from the primary level through to PhD programmes.
“With great pomp and show, the Pragat Diwas of Bhagwan Valmiki Ji Maharaj was celebrated in Ludhiana. On this occasion, I extend my heartiest congratulations to people across the world. We announced today that if a Congress government comes to power in the near future, we will establish a university in Punjab named after Bhagwan Valmiki Ji. Children and youth from poor and middle-class families, regardless of caste, will receive free education at this institution, from the primary level up to a PhD,” Channi told reporters.

Kejriwal takes a swipe at BJP-SAD alliance buzz

A day earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had taken a swipe at the BJP and SAD amid speculation over a possible alliance.
“Majithia and Amit Shah ji are extremely close, just like brothers. By allying with Majithia now, Amit Shah ji will eradicate drugs from Punjab. This will be the eighth wonder of the world. Wow, Modi ji, wow. What planning you’ve done,” Kejriwal wrote on X.
The political exchanges come as parties prepare for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
In the 2022 Assembly polls, when the BJP and SAD contested separately, the Akali Dal won three seats and the BJP secured two in the 117-member House.
The AAP swept the election, winning 92 seats, while the Congress finished second with 18 seats as it looks to return to power in the state.
