Ahead of the IPL 2027 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) have initiated a major overhaul of their backroom setup. In their quest to secure an elusive maiden IPL title, the franchise has assembled a star-studded coaching contingent blending tactical pedigree, international experience, and championship-winning mentality.
Delhi Capitals have completed a high-profile overhaul of their coaching and support staff ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027, installing a star-studded setup led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly as head coach and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach.
The changes follow an agreement between co-owners GMR Sports and JSW Sports for alternating two-year control of franchise operations and come after DC finished sixth in IPL 2026 under the previous regime of head coach Hemang Badani.
The franchise, which has never lifted the IPL trophy (reaching the final only once, in 2020), is aiming for a stronger challenge with an experienced Indian core that includes captain Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and the returning Rishabh Pant.
Key Appointments
Head Coach: Sourav Ganguly
Announced in early October 2026, replacing Hemang Badani. This is Ganguly’s first IPL head-coach role (he previously coached Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2025 and held advisory/director of cricket roles with Delhi Capitals and its WPL side). He has a long association with the franchise dating back to 2019.
Assistant And Batting Coach: Yuvraj Singh
In one of the most high-profile coaching transitions of the season, two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has been appointed as the assistant and batting coach. He reunites with Ganguly (under whom he debuted for India) and returns to the Delhi franchise he represented in 2015 (then Delhi Daredevils) after being signed for a then-record Rs 16 crore.
This marks Yuvraj's debut coaching role in the IPL. Having unofficially mentored several young Indian batters in domestic circuits, his formal addition brings aggressive white-ball intent and clutch-tournament experience directly into the Delhi dressing room.
Fast Bowling Coach: Chaminda Vaas
Former Sri Lanka left-arm pacer (355 Test and 400 ODI wickets) appointed in mid-October, replacing Munaf Patel. He brings extensive international coaching experience (including stints with Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Ireland).
Spin Bowling Coach: Amit Mishra
In an emotional homecoming, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra returns to Delhi Capitals - the team where he started his IPL career back in 2008. As the only bowler in IPL history with three hat-tricks, Mishra’s expertise will be crucial in grooming DC’s spin arsenal.

With tactical experience on the bench, DC will aim to turn potential into silverware in IPL 2027.
