England batter Harry Brook rewrote the history books in Rawalpindi on Thursday, shattering the world record for the fastest double century in One-Day International cricket.

England captain Harry Brook rewrote the ODI record books on Thursday in Rawalpindi, blasting the fastest double century in the format’s history and becoming the first Englishman to reach 200 in a one-day international.

Arriving at No. 4, Brook smashed 202 off 116 balls (21 fours and 10 sixes) against Sri Lanka in the tri-series, reaching the 200-run milestone in just 114 deliveries and edging out the previous benchmark set by India captain Shubman Gill less than a month earlier against the West Indies in Guwahati.

Brook's Innings Breakdown

Brook came in at No. 4 after Ben Duckett (29) and Tom Banton (50) had given England a solid start. He began cautiously - only 13 runs from his first 24 balls - before accelerating. He reached his fifty off 42 balls and his fourth ODI century off 75 deliveries. From there he cut loose, racing from 100 to 200 in just 39 balls.

The 27-year-old Brook shared a 159-run partnership with Joe Root (69 off 66) for the third wicket, then added an unbroken 185-run stand with Will Jacks (66* off 30) as England plundered runs in the closing overs.

Brook brought up his double hundred in the final over with a paddled sweep for four off Janith Liyanage and was dismissed off the last ball of the innings, caught by Sahan Arachchige. England finished on a mammoth 429-4, the highest ODI total ever posted in Pakistan.

Multiple Records Fall During Brook Knock

Fastest ODI double century: 114 balls (previous: Shubman Gill 117 vs West Indies, 2026).

First England ODI double century: Surpassed Ben Stokes’ previous English record of 182 not out against New Zealand in 2023.

Highest individual ODI score by a non-opener and one of the highest scores by a captain.

Brook joined Chris Gayle as only the second player to score a triple century in Tests, a double century in ODIs, and a century in T20Is.

The innings came after England’s defeat to Pakistan earlier in the series on the same ground. Brook had called for more positivity from his side; he delivered it himself in emphatic fashion, mixing power-hitting with innovative shots all around the park.
