Bharat Arun tells Zee News Digital how India's fast bowlers can exploit New Zealand conditions during the upcoming tour. The former India bowling coach stresses the importance of using the new ball judiciously and planning for the middle and death overs.
Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun believes India's fast bowlers can excel in New Zealand by using the conditions effectively and executing their plans across different phases of the innings during the upcoming tour.
Speaking to Zee News Digital in an exclusive interaction, Arun highlighted the importance of swing bowling with the new ball while stressing that a team's success also depends on having clearly defined roles for bowlers in the middle and death overs.
Bharat Arun on New Zealand conditions
"When the ball is moving around, batsmen from all over the world find it very difficult to play. And New Zealand is one place where the conditions suit somebody who can swing the ball," Arun said.
The former India bowling coach acknowledged that the new ball can offer opportunities for fast bowlers in white-ball cricket. He emphasised that using the movement effectively at the start of the innings is crucial for a bowling unit.
"If we can learn how to move the ball judiciously at the top, then therein lies the success of any bowling unit," he added.
Why Bowling plans for all phases matter
Arun also stressed the importance of identifying bowlers for specific phases of the innings, explaining that effective planning must extend beyond the opening overs.
"If you can identify people who will be bowling at the top, the mid-overs properly, and plan the death overs as well, then New Zealand would be a great place for these fast bowlers to excel," he said.
Bharat Arun's coaching experience
Arun served as India's bowling coach from 2017 until the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, having previously held the role during 2014-15. He is currently the bowling coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
His assessment underlines the importance of combining early movement with disciplined execution and clear bowling roles as India prepare for their tour of New Zealand.
