Iran has warned US President Donald Trump that any fresh military confrontation with Tehran could turn into a prolonged conflict, insisting that Washington will have no say in deciding its duration or outcome. The warning came as Iran submitted documents and photographic evidence of alleged US and Israeli attacks to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), raising concerns over the safety of international shipping routes.

Iranian Defence Minister Mehrdad Akhlaghi said on Sunday that any attack on the country would invite a “proportionate, decisive, and impactful response”, warning that the consequences of renewed hostilities would not be determined by its adversaries.

“Those who pose threats will not dictate the scope, timing, or consequences of Iran’s defensive response,” Al Jazeera quoted Akhlaghi as saying.

Iranian officials have repeatedly cautioned that another conflict with the United States could last considerably longer than previous military engagements, adding that Trump would not be able to decide unilaterally when the fighting ends.

The warning comes months after nearly 40 days of intense military confrontation following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. Although the heavy fighting eased by April, intermittent exchanges between the opposing sides have continued, Al Jazeera reported.

Iran submits evidence of US-Israeli attacks to IMO

Separately, Tehran has submitted a dossier containing documents and photographs detailing alleged US and Israeli attacks to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

According to Al Jazeera, the material has been formally circulated among IMO member states for consideration under Agenda Item 11, titled ‘Protection of Vital Shipping Lanes’. It is scheduled to be reviewed during the organisation's council session in London from November 2 to 6.

Iran has argued that attacks on maritime infrastructure pose a serious threat to international shipping and the safety of seafarers. Citing Iranian state news agency IRNA, Al Jazeera reported that Tehran highlighted the risks posed by strikes on maritime traffic control networks, which could increase the likelihood of accidents.

It also warned that the destruction of emergency rescue facilities could weaken disaster-response capabilities along critical waterways.

Iran designates UK's Royal Navy, RAF as 'terrorist organisations'

In another significant development, Iran's Foreign Ministry on Sunday designated the United Kingdom's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as “terrorist organisations” and classified its Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) as a “hostile group”, citing what it described as Britain's hostile actions against Tehran.

In a statement issued on November 1, the ministry said the measures had been adopted under a resolution of Iran's Supreme National Security Council in response to British actions over the past year.

Tehran accused the British government of pursuing policies that violate the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly those relating to national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful measures against other countries.

The statement also alleged that Britain had supported the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran by providing military and logistical bases and facilities in territories under its jurisdiction.

Iran further cited Britain's decision on July 13, 2026, to place the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under the State Threats Act 2026 as one of the reasons behind its move.

Announcing the classification of MI6, the ministry said the agency would be treated as a “hostile group” under Note 2 to Article 1 of Iran's law on enhancing punishments for espionage and cooperation with Israel and other countries considered hostile to its national security and interests.

It also said the UK's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force would fall under the law on countermeasures against the United States' designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organisation, and would accordingly be classified as terrorist organisations under Iranian law.

The Foreign Ministry maintained that the measures were necessary to protect Iran's national security and interests and had been taken in line with international law and the principle of reciprocity.

“It is self-evident that these measures have been adopted in accordance with the principles of international law and within the framework of the principle of reciprocity, and the British government shall bear responsibility for their consequences,” the statement said.

Why has Britain designated the IRGC?

Britain designated Iran's IRGC under the State Threats Act 2026 in July. The legislation allows foreign state bodies considered a threat to UK national security to be listed.

Under the law, anyone in the UK found supporting or assisting the IRGC could face a prison sentence of up to 14 years, Al Jazeera reported.
