Veteran National Conference leader and six-time Eidgah MLA Mubarak Gul on Wednesday abruptly cancelled a highly anticipated press conference in Srinagar, citing the “prevailing atmosphere” in Jammu and Kashmir and the strong sentiments of his long-time workers and associates.

Gul, a former Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, had been under intense pressure after being left out of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent Cabinet expansion. His supporters staged dramatic protests some wearing shrouds demanding either a ministerial berth or his resignation from the party. The exclusion came at a time when the National Conference is already reeling from the resignation of Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, deepening perceptions of internal unrest.

Against this backdrop, Gul was widely expected to announce his future course of action. Instead, he chose restraint.

In a brief statement, the senior leader said:

“Considering the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, we must take the prevailing atmosphere into account.

We must also consider the advice of our close associates and the feelings and sentiments of our workers.

Some of these workers have been associated with me for nearly 50 years, going back to around 1975. I value their feelings, emotions, and sentiments.

Therefore, I announce that I am canceling today’s press conference/future statement.

I will not take any questions today because I want to respect the feelings of my workers, colleagues, and friends.

They are the people who represent me and expressed their feelings.

I will not say anything further on this matter right now. There is nothing more I wish to say.

God willing, everything will happen at the appropriate time. Whatever I have said today is all this. That is the message I want to convey.

Once again, I thank everyone. I express my gratitude to all my friends.

But he cleared his stand in one sentence “I am a fighter, and I will continue to fight.”

The carefully worded message leaves Gul’s next political move deliberately open-ended while signaling that he is prioritizing the counsel of his core cadre over any immediate confrontation.

Hundreds of Gull supports are camping at his residence since the expansion of cabinet happened and every day, they used to protest the party leadership and demand justice according to them the most senior and loyal soldier of national conference. They too backed gull statement saying our fight will continue till we get our right or answer what’s the reason that Mubarak Gull was dropped from cabinet.

Younis Gull ( son of Mubarak Gull ) Younis said all is not well in party if it would been well why there would have been protests, he added that party should realize who are rebels we are those who are misguiding the party leadership, he agreed that Aga is big religious leader and cleared his stand that their ( Gull workers ) fight will continue.”

Sources said that the angry camp number are going up every day some se 20 some 24 , whatever will be number but Aga Syed Ruhullahs open challenge and from last 8 days NC failing to pacify their senior most legislators and workers indicates that the difference are not causal but serious.
