New Delhi: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recently completed 74 years. On the occasion of its foundation day, Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya launched WhatsApp-based services for EPFO subscribers.

The employees would be able to access the passbook, check PF balance, and view transactions through the EPFO's WhatsApp channel. Additionally, the subscribers would be able to avail guidance in completing requirements related to Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).

The move is aimed to provide ease to the users who would no longer have to visit the EPFO office as all the major services would be available on WhatsApp, a platform quite popular among the masses.

Services available

-- Subscribers would be able to check five latest transactions
-- Subscribers would be able to check the Provident Fund balance in their account
-- Subscribers would be able to access the passbook details

Automatic settlement

Another service launched by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya would be the automatic settlement concerning eligible inoperative accounts. As per the provisions, the balances up to Rs 1000 in Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts would be settled after furnishing identity and bank-account verification. The concerned subscriber would not have to file individual claims for the purpose. The eligible amount would then be transferred to the rightful beneficiary.

The initiative would benefit one lakh accounts involving approximately Rs 5 crore.

When a PF accounts stops receiving contributions in case of subscriber's retirement, permanent migration, or death, an account becomes inoperative.

Claim settlement

The impact of EPFO's technological transformation through CITES 2.01 was also showcased on the occasion. A significant improvement in claim settlement was highlighted, with the average settlement time declining to 2.57 days in October 2026. The improvement reflects the Organisation's continuing efforts to make access to provident fund savings faster and more convenient for members.

Seven publications were also released on the occasion, reflecting the EPFO's commitment to knowledge creation, institutional learning, legal awareness and compassionate governance.

Secretary, Labour & Employment, Chandra Bhushan Kumar emphasised that social protection and labour reforms must reach not just the organised sector, but unorganised sector workers at the last mile, noting that EPFO sets an example of how to achieve this through institutionalised processes.
