The result was put up on the commission's website on Thursday, November 5.

The Union Public Service Commission has announced the written results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026. A total of 2,526 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test, the last stage of selection for the IAS, IPS, IFS and other central services. The result was put up on the commission's website on Thursday, November 5.

The Mains papers were held from August 21 to August 30, 2026. The result came about two months later and a few days earlier than last cycle, when it was declared on November 11, 2025.

Candidates who made the list will now be called for interviews for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and other Group A and Group B central services.

One regional report puts the number of vacancies at 933. I could not match that figure against the official notice, so verify it before using it.

The commission has published only a qualifying list, not individual scores.

According to reports, UPSC has not released Mains marks or category-wise cut-offs along with the written result. The result appears as a PDF of names and roll numbers, not as a personal scorecard, and it can be opened without logging in. Marks usually become public after the entire process ends.

How to check the UPSC Mains result

  1. Open upsc.gov.in.
  2. Go to the "What's New" section, or the written results page under the Examination menu.
  3. Click the link for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026.
  4. A PDF will open. Press Ctrl+F and search your roll number or name.
  5. Download the file and keep a copy.

Two PDFs are available, one sorted by roll number and one that also lists names.

What qualified candidates must do next

The next step is a form, and the clock is already running. Reports say qualified candidates must fill in the detailed application form between November 11 and November 25, 2026, up to 6:00 PM IST, on the commission's online portal.

This form carries details such as service preferences, so candidates should keep their documents ready and avoid leaving it for the last day.

The commission has yet to name interview dates. In earlier years, UPSC has said such dates would be notified later.

Candidates should keep checking the website for the schedule and for e-summon letters.
