The Election Commission has announced a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in six states and Union Territories. The draft voter lists will be published on November 30, while the final electoral rolls are scheduled for January 21, 2027.

The Election Commission on Thursday announced a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in four states and two Union Territories, with draft lists to be published on November 30 and final rolls on January 21, 2027. The exercise will cover Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha and Sikkim, besides Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date.

The Commission has directed election officials to focus on enrolling eligible citizens whose names are missing from the rolls, particularly first-time voters. Existing electors will also be able to check their entries and seek corrections.

Claims and objections from November 30

According to the schedule, rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations must be completed by November 20, ahead of the publication of draft electoral rolls on November 30.

Claims and objections can be submitted from November 30 to December 30. The Commission has fixed January 18, 2027, as the deadline for their disposal, followed by publication of the final rolls on January 21.

The draft lists will allow electors to verify their names and personal details, seek inclusion or corrections, and raise objections to entries.

Eligible citizens can seek enrolment

Citizens who attain the age of 18 on or before January 1, 2027, and fulfil the other eligibility conditions can apply for inclusion in the electoral rolls.

Form 6 is used for registration of new voters, Form 8 for corrections or shifting of residence, and Form 7 for objections to proposed inclusion or requests for deletion of an existing entry.

Applications can be submitted through the Commission's voter services portal or the designated electoral registration authorities. Electors can also check their names through its online electoral search facility.

Those who will turn 18 on April 1, July 1 or October 1, 2027, can submit advance applications, which will be considered in the quarter in which they become eligible.

Separate schedule for six states and UTs

The announcement follows the Commission's October decision to undertake a separate Special Summary Revision in 17 states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

Under that schedule, draft rolls are to be published on November 12 and final electoral rolls on January 4, 2027.

The Commission had said separate schedules would be issued for areas where the Special Intensive Revision had recently been completed or was under way.

ECI de-links online Form 6 from SIR declaration

Meanwhile, in a separate development concerning voter registration, the Commission has implemented its decision to separate the Special Intensive Revision declaration from online Form 6 across all states, including those where the SIR exercise is under way.

The change was made on the ECINet portal on November 4-5, following the Commission's disclosure of the decision in a counter-affidavit filed before the Supreme Court on October 26.
