Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has voiced serious concerns regarding the declining physical health and changing dietary habits of younger generations in India. Speaking at an event alongside lyricist Javed Akhtar, the legendary sportsman warned that a combination of carb-heavy traditional diets, reduced daily physical activity, and the boom of fast-food culture poses long-term health risks for Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

Dhoni urged the youth to take immediate charge of their physical well-being, emphasising that preventive health choices regarding movement and nutrition must become a priority for the majority, rather than remain a trend for a small segment of society.

Mismatch between traditional diets and modern routines

Highlighting the core root of lifestyle-related health risks, Dhoni explained that India’s traditional diet, which is inherently high in carbohydrates, was originally designed to fuel a population engaged in rigorous physical labour. However, as modern jobs shift to desks and daily transportation becomes effortless, continuing the same diet without equivalent output creates a massive health hazard.

"I feel it's their own health. If you see the food culture that is present in India, it depends on where you come from, and it is still a carbohydrate-rich food," Dhoni explained. "The reason was that because of the daily life that we had, the physical hard work was on the higher side. Now the same food has been transferred to the newer generation, but the physical activity that used to be earlier has gone down drastically."

Decline of daily movement

Dhoni pointed out that modern urban conveniences, such as ride-hailing services, instant transportation, and prolonged desk-based work, have eliminated incidental physical movement from daily routines. This lack of daily exercise drastically alters how the human body processes energy and stores calories, drastically increasing susceptibility to metabolic issues.

"The moment you step out of your house or your flat, you will get an auto or an Uber immediately. So you are basically getting down and sitting on a vehicle, going to your work, sitting at the desk, coming down again. So that physical activity has gone down drastically," the former skipper noted.

MS Dhoni & Javed Akhtar's advice for Gen-Z and Millennials https://t.co/enjEKxMGTx

— 𝗦💛 (@mostlydhoni78) October 24, 2026

Why sugary and fried foods are growing threat

Beyond carbohydrates and sedentary habits, Dhoni cautioned against the unchecked consumption of processed, fried, and sugar-laden foods, a culture that was only emerging during his youth but has now hit its peak in modern India.

For individuals who do not engage in intense physical training, high intake of refined sugars and deep-fried items can accelerate long-term health complications, including obesity, cardiovascular strain, and insulin resistance.

"When we were growing up, the fast-food culture had just arrived in India, but now it is in its prime," Dhoni stated. "Sugary food and fried food are two things which are not very good for you, especially if you are not physically active."

Making fitness mass priority

While a small section of urban society has turned toward structured gym routines and fitness regimes, Dhoni stressed that health awareness must extend far beyond fitness enthusiasts. He urged the majority of Indians to incorporate basic movement, conscious portion control, and reduced sugar and fried food intake into their everyday lives.

"A small segment of our society has become fitness-oriented. But we will not talk about small segments—we will talk about the majority," Dhoni emphasised, concluding that long-term vitality relies on adapting everyday eating patterns and staying consistently active in a rapidly changing modern world.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni has issued health advice to younger generations, urging them to curb fast food, sugary items, and high-carb diets in favour of daily physical activity to counter increasingly sedentary modern lifestyles.

Several clips from the episode circulated online, evoking mixed reactions from the netizens.

One of the moments that drew particular attention was Vijay’s revelation that Rashmika had to propose to him nearly 100 times before he agreed to marry her. Reacting to this, many social media users labelled Vijay “red flag.”

Before Vijay, Rashmika took to Instagram to respond to the ongoing controversy.

“My lil’ 2 cents on this whole issue concerning me and Vijju. I generally don’t address these things because everyone has a right to their opinions. Sometimes, I even enjoy reading them and gaining a different perspective. But the current frenzy over our interview feels less like people having opinions and more like an angry mob looking for someone to vent at. Somewhere along the way, the whole point got lost. Maybe it didn’t fit your lens. Maybe some of you simply don’t want to see it. I’m writing this because I want to protect the people who believe in love, and I hope everyone gets to find their own version of it,” she posted.

“We’ve been bombarded with opinions, comments and unsolicited advice on all our profiles, mine and yours, unnecessarily. The conviction with which people came at us genuinely shook me a little. I was like, WHAT THE FK IS GOING ON? So I took a step back, thought about it, and here’s my lil’ take on my own life. First, it was never about the number of times or an entire year. That’s where some of you got stuck. Yes, that conversation happened. But neither of us was looking for a grand proposal. The conversation was about him wanting both of us to take the time and space to understand each other, to be sure that despite all the highs and lows, the joys and stresses of life, this was what we wanted and the right time for it. And we did. We chose each other. It’s okay that I knew exactly what I wanted. And it was equally okay that he wanted time to think all the practical things of life through and be sure. That didn’t change our love in any way. I am all heart and he is the thinker- and we need that in each other’s lives. For us, marriage was never about a proposal, getting down on one knee or putting a ring on a finger. That’s the decorative part. For us, it was about building a life and a future together. And I think we did that beautifully so far,” she added.

Rashmika also questioned how being obsessed with someone you love could ever be a bad thing, proudly admitting that she’s obsessed with Vijay.

“Find someone you would go to any lengths for, someone who would do the same for you. And yes, I am OBSESSED with my man. When did that become a bad thing? If I’m not IN LOVE with the man I’m marrying, then why in the world would I marry him? He’s going to be my companion for life. My friend through the ordinary days and the extraordinary ones. The father of my children. The man I grow old with. Find a man who loves you so beautifully that even after you’re married, you’d still want to tell him, ‘Let’s get married.’ I would do it a thousand times- 100 is nothing. It’s really that simple,” she wrote.Rashmika urged everyone to refrain from speaking ill of her or her family, making it clear that she wouldn’t tolerate any disrespect towards them.
“Bitch about me all you want. I can take it. But talking about my family without knowing them? That’s not feminism. That’s bullying dressed up as feminism. Feminism was never about putting someone else down or establishing superiority, whether you’re a man or a woman. It was always about having the freedom to choose your own life and taking charge of it. I took charge of mine,” she expressed.

In her note, Rashmika also opened up about how Vijay has always been by her side through thick and thin.“Right now, I am the happiest I have ever been. And I hope you can see that in my face, in the joy I’ve felt since getting married, in my performances, in my films, and simply in the way I live my life.I am happy. I am content. I am blessed. And the fact that some people would rather believe random narratives, misleading edits and absolute lies created on the internet that believe what I say about my own life is honestly a little creepy. When I snap a bone, you aren’t there. He is. When my stomach hurts every month, you aren’t there. He is. When I need to go to the hospital, you aren’t there. He is.
People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said Jammu and Kashmir's accession to India in 1947 was based on trust and assurances from the country's secular leadership, arguing that the arrangement was intended to protect the region's distinct identity rather than weaken its ties with the Union. She accused the subsequent breakdown of trust, including Sheikh Abdullah's shift towards a plebiscite demand, of fuelling suspicion about the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing party workers on Accession Day, Mufti recalled the historical circumstances surrounding October 26, 1947, when Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession. She said the endorsement of the decision by Sheikh Abdullah, then the region's most popular leader, had reassured people that India did not intend to impose its will on Jammu and Kashmir.

Mufti said the accession was conditional and aimed at safeguarding the region's culture, land, employment and political identity. She said Articles 370 and 35A later reflected those safeguards, which she claimed had been supported by assurances from leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru.

“We don’t know what went wrong that Sheikh Abdullah went against it by 1953 and to counter him RSS started one national one constitution campaign,” she said.

“Kashmir is highest militarized area today and it is result of the mistrust that arose after Sheikh Abdullah’s plebiscite campaign. BJP is trampling the constitution that gave us 370 across the country. I don’t have faith in courts and government but have faith in people of India.”

She said restrictions on protests and the presentation of what she called “enforced peace” as a political victory should concern the rest of the country.

“We are not allowed to protest on the streets, and BJP is projecting the ‘enforced peace’ as the victory. It is a warning for the whole country and today we want to remind the people of India of the promises made to the people of J&K. Today we celebrate the day we joined a great nation, but people of India should also fulfil their end of the bargain,” Mufti said.

Mehbooba Mufti Revisits 1947 Accession

Recounting the events leading to the accession, Mufti said the partition of British India had largely followed religious lines, with some Muslim-majority princely states joining Pakistan and Hindu-majority states acceding to India. She referred to Hyderabad to argue that the wishes of a ruler could not automatically override those of the majority population.

She said Pakistan had expected Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir to join it but made a “historical blunder” by sending tribal invaders into the region.

“A very big attack took place on the people of Jammu and Kashmir at that time, because the people of Jammu and Kashmir wanted to take their decision after thinking carefully. As a result, the Maharaja requested the Indian government that we confront this invasion that has taken place,” she said.

Mufti said India's leaders at the time, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, B R Ambedkar, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, believed the country should remain secular, with people of different religions living together.

She said the Indian leadership had insisted that the accession would not be complete without the endorsement of Jammu and Kashmir's popular leadership. Sheikh Abdullah's support, she argued, helped reassure people that their identity and sentiments would be respected.

According to Mufti, Jammu and Kashmir's diverse population, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, had a distinct mixed culture that needed protection. She said the conditions attached to the accession were intended to preserve that identity and prevent outsiders from buying land or taking local jobs.

“An Instrument of Accession was signed, which you are seeing, so that outsiders should not come and buy our land for a song, because our land is very limited, our land holding is very small,” she said.

She added that local employment also needed protection because the region's education system at the time did not place its people on an equal footing with those from outside.

Mufti said Jammu and Kashmir had joined India with trust and recalled Nehru's vision of making the region a “show-window” for the world.

“Jawaharlal Nehru said, ‘I want to make Jammu and Kashmir a show-window, a window for the world, so that the whole world keeps looking at it,’” she said.

Accuses Sheikh Abdullah's Plebiscite Campaign of Deepening Distrust

Mufti said relations between Sheikh Abdullah and the Centre deteriorated in the years following accession. She alleged that Abdullah's later demand for a plebiscite, and his statements favouring Pakistan, gave Hindutva groups an opportunity to intensify their campaign for “one nation, one flag, one constitution”.

She argued that Abdullah's change in position had consequences for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who, she claimed, came to be viewed with suspicion for decades.

Although Sheikh Abdullah returned to the political mainstream through the 1975 Accord and abandoned the plebiscite demand, Mufti said that suspicion had continued.

“You have seen if you look today, Jammu and Kashmir is the area in the whole world that has the highest militarization. There are seven or eight lakh soldiers here, security forces, CRPF, BSF and so on,” she said.

Mufti cited police raids, arrests, restrictions on movement and blocked passports as examples of the difficulties faced by residents. She also referred to reports of Kashmiri people being assaulted in Haryana and alleged that young people continued to face obstacles when seeking employment and education outside the region.

She criticised the heavy security presence, saying journeys that should take an hour could stretch to three hours because of checkpoints and security deployments.

“Meaning, even after so many years, Jammu and Kashmir is still in trouble, and the biggest thing about Jammu and Kashmir is that the talk of Jammu and Kashmir happens everywhere,” she said.

Mufti also criticised the way Kashmir is discussed at international forums and during elections elsewhere in India. She argued that meaningful political engagement had been replaced by investigations, arrests and laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA).

She alleged that the region's political concerns were being addressed through security agencies and restrictions rather than dialogue.

‘2019 Changes Fulfilled Hindutva Agenda’, Says PDP Chief

Mufti said the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 had fulfilled what she described as the Hindutva agenda and had been followed by further restrictions and difficulties for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

She accused the BJP of dismantling constitutional protections and said she had little expectation that the current government would restore them. However, she appealed to people across India to take note of what she described as the treatment of Kashmiris.

Referring to incidents on July 22 and October 10, she alleged that young people had faced violence and that thousands had been detained or made to furnish bonds.
For decades, separatists and their ideological allies portrayed October 26 as a “Black Day” in Kashmir, marking the signing of the Instrument of Accession. On Monday, the BJP sought to change that narrative, celebrating the 79th anniversary of Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India as a day of victory, pride and national unity across the Union Territory.

On October 26, 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession, formally integrating the princely state with the Dominion of India. The following day, October 27, Indian troops landed in Srinagar to repel the tribal invasion launched from Pakistan. What separatists had long sought to portray as a tragedy, the BJP now presents as the foundation of Kashmir’s enduring bond with India. The party argues that the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 further consolidated that relationship.

BJP offices across Jammu and Kashmir witnessed celebrations, with leaders and workers gathering to mark the occasion. At the party's headquarters in Srinagar, a large gathering unfurled the Tricolour and party flags, raised slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and distributed sweets. Similar programmes were organised at party offices and public venues across the Union Territory, with the J&K unit marking the occasion with the festive spirit associated with Eid, Holi and Diwali.

Speaking to Zee News, BJP's Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur described Maharaja Hari Singh's decision as a rejection of the two-nation theory and a visionary choice to join India's democratic system.

“This is a day of Eid, Holi, Diwali for us. We have got merged with the Indian state, the mother of democracy. We are now proud Indians,” Thakur said.

He argued that the 1947 accession was decisively strengthened by the constitutional changes introduced in 2019, which removed Article 370 and, in the BJP's view, completed Jammu and Kashmir's integration with India in letter and spirit.

Thakur also targeted political rivals, accusing National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and his party of attempting to obscure their record of misgovernance and remaining emotionally invested in the violence of the past.

“Farooq should publicly apologize,” he said, alleging that the National Conference remained more comfortable with the old narrative of victimhood than with what he described as Kashmir's emerging story of peace and development.

Thakur also criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his recent remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dismissing them as the frustration of a party that had repeatedly lost elections, he announced that the BJP would organise protests against the Congress.

The celebrations come amid a sharp political exchange following Farooq Abdullah's recent comments suggesting that Pakistan's continued international advocacy on Kashmir somehow protects the region's interests. BJP leaders, including Thakur and Jammu and Kashmir unit president Sat Sharma, have described those remarks as anti-national and demanded accountability.

For the BJP, Accession Day has become more than a contested historical anniversary. The party sees it as an opportunity to underline its claim that the changes introduced after 2019 have opened a new chapter for Jammu and Kashmir. It presents the occasion as a reaffirmation of the Maharaja's decision and the principles of one Constitution, one flag and one citizenship, while arguing that the Valley's youth are increasingly looking towards development and opportunity rather than the politics of grievance.

Where separatist calls for a “Black Day” once shaped the anniversary's public narrative, the BJP says celebrations marked by saffron flags, Tricolour rallies and public displays of support for the accession now reflect a changing political mood in Srinagar and across the Union Territory. On Monday, the party made that contrast central to its message.

Mumbai: Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s recent appearance on the ninth season of ‘Koffee With Karan’ has not gone down well with a section of social media users. Since the episode aired last week, the couple has been facing severe online trolling over several revelations they made about their relationship.
Amid the ongoing controversy, Rashmika on Monday penned a lengthy note, calling out the trolls in a dignified way.
She emphasised that their decision to marry was never about a grand proposal or a timeline, but about consciously choosing to build a life together.
The conversation was about him wanting both of us to take the time and space to understand each other, to be sure that despite all the highs and lows, the joys and stresses of life, this was what we wanted and the right time for it.And we did.
It’s really that simple,” she wrote.
Rashmika urged everyone to refrain from speaking ill of her or her family, making it clear that she wouldn’t tolerate any disrespect towards them.
In her note, Rashmika also opened up about how Vijay has always been by her side through thick and thin.
“Right now, I am the happiest I have ever been. He is. When I wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety, you aren’t there. He is. And when I break down, I don’t have your shoulder to cry on. I have his. So please, don’t worry about me or him. I genuinely wish and pray that you find someone you love who loves you just as deeply. And if that isn’t what you want for yourself, that’s completely fine too. Live the life that makes you happy,” she said.
Rashmika concluded her note with a shout out to her fans who have always loved her and supported her.
“And it rewarded me with immense love ….And to some of my Kannadiga friends… Ahhh, how lovely it is to know that I’m still so deeply etched in your hearts even after 10 years. For you to still be celebrating me after all this time… truly, I’m blessed! Love to all those who celebrate love and joy. And to everyone else… please find something that makes you happy, too,” she signed off.
Rashmika and Vijay tied the knot in Udaipur on February 26, 2026

Following severe social media backlash over their Koffee With Karan appearance, Rashmika Mandanna issued a strong statement calling out online trolling and defending her husband, Vijay Deverakonda, emphasising that their marriage is built on mutual choice, love, and partnership.

They cautioned that the US President has previously appeared inclined to pursue certain actions before backing away at the last moment.

The White House declined to comment on the report.

A senior Pentagon official told CNN in a statement: “The Department is a planning organisation, and its job is to develop and execute military options ordered by the President.”

Iran and Houthis prepare for possible retaliation

Recent US intelligence assessments indicate that Iran and Yemen’s Houthi rebels are taking the possibility of renewed American attacks seriously, potentially including operations conducted alongside Israel, according to two additional sources familiar with the assessments.

If Washington and Israel launch fresh military operations against Iran, Tehran and the Houthis would likely retaliate immediately by targeting American personnel and facilities across the region and potentially beyond, the sources told CNN.

An unclassified memo dated October 23, sent by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, said US intelligence had found that “Iran has substantially increased efforts to target US personnel”. It added that plotting efforts “have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries”, CNN had previously reported.

US intelligence officials believe Iran and the Houthis are unlikely to launch pre-emptive escalatory attacks against American personnel or Israel at this stage. However, one source familiar with the latest assessments told CNN that they would not hesitate to retaliate if Iran were targeted first by US or Israeli forces.

US steps up precautions at regional facilities

The threat posed by Iran and the Houthis is also one reason the US is expected to continue quietly withdrawing personnel from its embassies across West Asia in the coming days, according to the report.

The US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is currently the only American diplomatic facility in the region subject to an ordered departure. However, one source told CNN that similar directives were expected at other facilities, while missions without such orders would reduce staffing under personnel caps.

Non-essential US military personnel expected to deploy to West Asia as part of the next troop rotation have also been told they will no longer be sent, a US official said, underscoring concerns about a possible regional escalation.

Despite an increase in the number of tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices remain high, partly because of the threat of potential Iranian attacks.

One US official described the situation around the strategic waterway as “untenable” in the long term. The official said it could be one factor pushing Trump towards military action, unless a diplomatic breakthrough emerges at the last moment.

CNN reported that questions remain over whether the White House has a broader strategy for bringing the conflict to an end.

Netanyahu pushes for fresh strikes against Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been pressing for additional attacks against Iran. However, US officials have asked him to wait until the Trump administration is ready to conduct joint operations, according to two US officials and an Israeli security source cited by CNN.

“Netanyahu really wanted and tried to convince Trump for a joint attack in Iran before the elections, and Trump did not give a green light,” the Israeli security source told CNN.

The source said one reason Trump declined was that Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir had told US General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, that an attack would harm the elections in Israel and lead to their postponement.

Israel had been preparing for the possibility of further attacks against Iran over the preceding week and had lobbied US officials to support and complement the strikes, a third source briefed on the matter told CNN.

However, senior US officials, including Trump, had told Israel to hold off, signalling that the two countries could launch joint operations soon.

Israel appears to have postponed additional strikes in the immediate term while building up preparations for potential joint operations with the US, likely after the American midterm elections, the sources told CNN.

The report added that Israel appeared to have agreed to delay fresh strikes partly because it needs American support for missile defence. Retaliation by Iran and the Houthis could put further pressure on Israel’s defensive munitions.

Questions remain over Israel’s strategic objectives

Recent US intelligence assessments also indicate that Netanyahu and his allies still lack a clear strategic objective beyond demonstrating some form of “progress” and continuing to weaken the Iranian regime, one source familiar with the assessments told CNN.

During a speech at an IDF graduation ceremony this week, Netanyahu said his directive to the IDF, the Mossad and other security agencies was to topple the regime in Iran.

“The plans are ready, waiting for Trump’s approval, could be after the midterms,” the same source told CNN.

Israel denies reports of Netanyahu-Zamir rift

Separately, Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 reported on Sunday night that a confrontation appeared to be brewing between Netanyahu and IDF Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir over the possibility of launching attacks on Iran ahead of the elections.

On Monday, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz denied reports of a dispute between the Prime Minister and Zamir over possible military action against Iran.
Australia will have a new opener for the Test series decider against South Africa after Nic Maddinson and backup wicketkeeper Sam Harper were released from the squad. Meanwhile, veteran batter Steve Smith will undergo a fitness test on his troublesome neck.

Maddinson, whose recall for the tour came as a surprise, managed scores of 0, 48, 0 and 8 in his four innings in the series. He is flying back home early to turn out for New South Wales (CSW) in their Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in Hobart, which begins on Friday. His exit means Matthew Renshaw is set to partner Travis Head at the top.

Harper has also been released from the squad and will turn out for Victoria in their Shield game against Queensland at the Gabba starting on Saturday. He had been drafted in as cover after Josh Inglis fractured his finger, but Inglis has since been cleared to keep wicket should Alex Carey run into any trouble.

"We feel like it’s going to be a pretty steep progression in terms of (whether) he should be available. But if we’re surprised today, you’ll see that play out," head coach Andrew McDonald was quoted as saying by Cricinfo on Monday.

Smith picked up the neck injury during the second Test in Gqeberha. Though he is expected to be fit, it would increase the pressure on Marnus Labuschagne to retain his number three spot, with Cameron Green and Inglis also back from injury. Should Smith fail to recover in time, Labuschagne would in all likelihood play in Cape Town.

Chief Selector George Bailey acknowledged that Labuschagne had been getting starts without converting them into big scores. "I don’t know if I’ve got anything further to add than I think everyone’s said over the last (period of time). We’ve seen some good things. Is there a block at the moment around the 30s? Yes. (He’s) still contributing in terms of his ability to get through a number of balls.

“So it’s a decision around what that looks like if he gets through (to the 30s) again, what does it look like for the collective, and is it helping others around him (and) the team get a result that we ultimately want?"

Bailey also defended the decision to pick Maddinson, insisting that the left-hander’s Test career is still not over. "I think performance-wise… would you like more runs in it? Yes. So that’s okay. It did allow us to set the rest of the team up the way that we wanted whilst we were working with the group we have, yes.

"We always talk about what we see when we see players that are best. I think you saw a glimpse of that in the second innings in Durban. So there’s a message for him. With him going home, I wanted to be clear to him it wasn’t a stopgap and that’s it and it’s not a discard.

"The same reasons and process we worked through to get him to be on the table for here and ultimately to play – they’ll be the same questions that we’ll ask across the home summer to India as well."

Nic Maddinson, whose recall for the tour came as a surprise, managed scores of 0, 48, 0 and 8 in his four innings in the series. His exit means Matthew Renshaw is set to partner Travis Head at the top.

Jerusalem (Israel): “We want a change.” That is the message from several Israeli residents ahead of legislative elections scheduled to be held on Tuesday (October 27). They described years of war, loss and uncertainty and called for peace, political change and national unity.

Speaking to ANI, first-time voter Nave said that wars had affected young people and called on the government to reach agreements with other countries and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

“My expectation from the government is that after three years of war, we need to get some agreements with the other countries and with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and we need to get some peace and quiet because these three years of war have affected us very much as young people and as first-time voters,” he said.

He stated that most of his friends wanted a change in government, although some members of his family still supported incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Most of my friends think we need a change in government. Opinion polls suggest no political bloc is on course to secure a majority in the 120-seat Knesset.

Israel election 2026: ‘We want a change’ – can Netanyahu defy voters’ anger?

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma said she never stopped believing in her hard work during the nine-year-long wait for hitting a second ODI hundred, which finally ended when she scored an unbeaten 106 against Zimbabwe in the team's 121-run win in the second ODI.

At the BCA Stadium on Sunday, Deepti’s unbeaten 86-ball knock helped India reach 328/6 and then get a series-clinching win with a game to spare. Deepti’s maiden ODI hundred had come in May 2017, an epic 188 off 160 balls against Ireland in South Africa.

The gap between her two centuries in the format stretched to nine years and five months, or 3,450 days. "I tried a lot, but it took a lot of time to reach. But I believed in my hard work that I would reach (another century) sooner or later," Deepti was quoted as saying by ICC on Monday.

Deepti, who struck 15 boundaries, found an able partner in former skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, as they put on 153 runs together for the fifth wicket. Deepti, who later picked a three-wicket haul with her off-spin, said building a partnership was uppermost in her mind, rather than the three-figure mark.

"I think more than 100 was in my mind. How can we build a partnership in that situation? That was the mindset. And obviously, 100 is special. It feels good to reach after such a long time. And I am grateful that I was able to achieve that on the ground of Baroda."

Zimbabwe made a spirited effort in the chase before being bowled out for 207, and Deepti was generous in her praise of the visitors. "They played (well) in the first ODI as well. They have good batters in their team as well. We cannot say that they are a weak team or play differently. But they gave us a fight."

"We knew that we could dismiss them given our bowling unit. That was the mindset. And I think all the bowlers did a good job. In fact, the whole team gave a good performance," she added. The third and final match of the series will be played in Vadodara on Wednesday.

Deepti Sharma ended a nine-year wait for her second ODI century, smashing an unbeaten 106 against Zimbabwe to help India seal the series with a 121-run win. She also claimed three wickets, delivering an all-round performance in the second ODI.
